Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group

I've never had to open up a string post hole on any of my Hofner's or Klira's when using Pyramid Golds or LaBella 760FHB2 strings either. They've always fit perfectly.

I'm using round wounds, short scale but the windings run out further.
Also, remembering that Hofners use guitar tuners, all string sets made for Hofners would be made with a thin wire comming from the bullet and thin wire leading out to the tuners.

I present my Höfner Violin Bass Ignition, in public, for the first time.
Now, thanks to the Bass Guitar For Dummies book, I started to practice a bit.
Mentioning that, I also start too with the electric guitar.
Is it bad to combine learning two instruments?
In my Hoffy, I just changed original knobs by Tea Knobs, and the original strings by flatwounds strings.
Now I'm waiting for some Grover Sta-Tite 18/1 TUNERS as the original did not work well.
I tell you that I have a small problem. Not affect either the pitch or in tension, but the end of the E string, not just entering the tailpiece!!!
Nothing more for today, sorry for my bad English!!! Is not my native language.

Most strings are wound closer to the bullet. String sets made specifically for Hofners taper their string ends more at both ends.
I removed my bridge and opened up the e-string slot from the bottom a slight bit with a file. It will never affect the strength, but will allow a wider selection of strings.

Bienvenido! I wish I could speak Catalan!
Nice bass! Some brands of strings, the ball at the end will not fit inside the slot that holds it on the tailpiece. I had TI flats on one Icon bass, and that is what happened. Now I use only LaBella Hofner Beatle bass flat wound strings, extra lights. They fit PERFECTO!!

Here in Barcelona is difficult to find Höfner or Labella strings, and when you find these, are very expensive 60 Euros + or - 78 U.S. Dollars. My Ernie Ball worth 28 Euros + or - 37 U.S. Dollars. But they are long scale, but I do not think it gives problems, right?

Those tuners at Stewmac.com are $41 and change. I'm ordering a second set because I have a Danelectro DC Bass that has guitar tuners also. I'll then have a set in stock.

German made and Contemporary Series only. They've been doing some funky things with the HCT serial #'s lately that i'm going to look into.

Don't be alarmed, all Hofner tuners, (German as well), are essentially guitar tuners.
They work ok. I wasn't happy with the ones that came from Indonesia and changed them to Grovers.

They don't need to be huge. As you may know the shaft bushing vary with the brand, so, there is no standard diameter. They are mostly similar but not all the same. The bushing diameter for the Grovers is 11/32" and required a slightly larger hole. The screw hole spread was almost perfect.
Does that bass have open gear tuners? If so, they are probably the same as what came on my Hofner Club.

Probably, when fender made the first electric bass, they thought, hmm, big guitar, big strings, that great big neck and head stock would look funny with little tuners... Well, We'll make then jumbo! Now that looks balanced!
Your bass however, is about the same as a baritone and doesn't have a great big head stock. They will look and work fine.
