Horrible Stock Colors

I was just trying to point out the difference between the original finish as intended and the more commonly recognized greenish, yellowish, faded finish. The original finish isn't far off from the "grey-burst" Danelectros imo.

I can live with gray burst but can't live with dan electro. When it comes to an ugly instrument contest Dan Electro doesn't just take the cake but bakes it too. They are just not for me not saying they're bad but I don't like them.

The finishes that I can't stand have to be that brown fender did, surf or sea foam green, tobacco sun burst with tort, that vintage pink, not into neon pink. Also for some reason just basic black, I can't bring myself to buy a glossy black guitar or bass. I like matte or satin black which many don't but I feel it's adds a nice contrast to the fret board and hardware, were standard gloss black has a shine that takes away the contrast and negative space black should have. So yes when spinal tap asked can it get any blacker than this? it can....matte black.

As I said previously, different strokes. I suppose the Longhorn is "ugly", but that's part of why I like it. That, and it's light as a feather, very easy to play, and capable of producing a wide variety of tones. I don't need it to please anyone but me and it does a good job of that.

That's the thing about colour - everyone has different life experiences tied to certain colours that shape our opinions. I developed a custom cabinet finish once years ago that tied in perfectly with the stone countertops and wall colours in a newly refurbished kitchen. I really felt good about how I nailed it. The client called that evening saying her husband didn't like it (even if she did). The next day after many questions to determine an exceptable resolution - what it came down to was his seeing the cool blue-grey glaze over warm oak 'look' as akin to dead-flesh/a cadaver, something he dealt with at his 'job' (as a surgeon) but didn't particularly want to see in his kitchen! ~!~

I don't meant to say they're bad, I will admit I have played a six baritone guitar of theirs and it played nice and that one didn't look too bad. But yes beauty is in eye of the beholder all though I find the long horn to be ugly but you like that about it.

I respect that because Long horns and dan electro are unique and have really stuck to their guns. Even fender makes some HH model strats and teles or make attempts at modern basses. Dan Electro doesn't change a thing, lip stick pick ups and distinct body shapes and they sound original. It's their way or the high way and I respect that. Yes they won't have me as a buyer and I may think the long horns ugly but I won't say it to the long horns face....don't want to get the horns.

I like the "ugly" aspect because it looks completely different than everything else. The double deep cuts are also utilitarian, reaching down all the way to the 24th fret.

I think you're both right: looks like Cherryburst and does look rattle can. But it isn't. Here's another Hondo II--you knew it had to be Hondo--wearing the same cherry finish. The patterning kills me.

Not to get all defensive about my beloved Dan Armstrong, but there is a WIDE variety of sounds that it can make. And yes, "trying to talk with a sock stuffed in it's mouth" is certainly one of them! :roflmao:
