One Missed Call - ok so the effects will give you the chills but the end was one of those ones that makes you go "Seriously? You just failed."

The original Japanese film was pretty good, the US remake was weak

Miike's GOZU was excellent, I don't know if it's horror

I really tried to like that movie......couldn't.....Hate it......but LOVE "The Devil's Rejects"

He really came around with his second flick as a director. "House" was just all over the place, like he wanted to throw as much **** against the wall and see what stuck.

Disagree. House was an instant horror classic. Rejects was in fact a "brutal crime drama", not a horror film.

I've seen several of those- Cigarette Burns, Incident On and Off A Mountain Road, and Pelts. They all seem to be pretty decent- some have some really good parts. I'm watching the Deer Woman next (the John Landis one). Most of them are on Netflix Instant.

Some are a lot better than others... "Pelts" by Argento was brilliant, as was "Cigarette Burns", and Stuart Gordon's "Dreams at the Witch House"

Do any of you remember a 1992 horror-comedy loaded with gruesome bloody gore called "DEAD ALIVE" from Peter Jackson?

Best zombie movie of all time!

Planet Terror and Death Proof are two wildly different movies and I think overall they didn't capture what they were going for.

Because you need to see the trailers... all we got on DVD was MACHETE. Which rules.

Planet Terror was genius, especially the part where the film burns. Death Proof had the one good crash scene, the rest was garbage.

zombie movies > vampire films

Eh, Herzog's Nosferatu is probably the best vampire movie I've ever seen, and it definitely beats out any Zombie film that I've laid my hands on. On the other hand, Herzog is such a fantastic director (full disclosure: He may be my favorite director of all time) that I'd have a hard time finding something I consider better.

As far as House and Rejects go, they're both homages to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, its just a matter of whether you liked TCM I or II better Either way, Zombie's not much of a director, but his heart is in the right place, and hopefully one of these days he'll hire a decent DP and make the film that'll really silence the haters.

-1 - Totally Disagree ... 1000 Corpses had so much surrealism, gore, hot chicks, and the music [his] was excellent.

The Rejects was a great part II finishing the story, but minus the surrealism of the first.

Picked up Food Of The Gods (an adaptation of the H.G. Wells story) and Phase IV today. FOTGs, if I remember correctly from when I saw it thirty years ago, is about a B- grade movie but it should be fun to watch again all these years later. Phase IV is a movie I've been waiting YEARS for it to come out on DVD. It's a '70s SciFi/horror thing about ravenous ants. I'm sure it won't be nearly as great as it was when I first saw it as a teen, but I still can't wait to get it.

I found "Mansion of the Doomed" starring Richard Basehart, and a young Lance Henriksen. That 70's movie really freaked me out when I was a kid.

It's about a surgeon gone mad trying to restore his daughters eyesight after a car accident - so he starts drugging people, and removing their eyes to transplant into his daughter while keeping all the victims locked in his dungeon.

I got it off Amazon for pretty cheap, but it didn't bug me at all now - especially with the special effects, and horror movies of the 90's > to date.

Nothing is left to the imagination any more, that's for sure. Our senses and perceptions have been pounded senseless with special effects for the past 20 years so now anything before that just seems....meh.

I know exactly what you mean. The two I bought this week that I'm waiting on (Food of the Gods and Phase IV), I know they're going to be bad, but I want to see them anyway. I may never want to watch them again, but I do now!

Just watched The Faculty for the second time, eight or nine years after seeing it before. I was surprised to see all the "name" actors in it. Elijah Wood, Salma Hayek, Jon Stewart, Josh Hartnett, Jordana Brewster, Robert Patrick, Famke Janssen, etc. It's still a rather pedestrian movie though, nothing special about it. Probably Rodriguez' least impressive effort.

I finally got to see "Quarantine" - I thought it was pretty good with some good jolts, and pretty non-stop once it got going, but I was getting dizzy with the shaky camera work.
