My number 2 is a fender Mexican jazz 5 string. Super affordable and reliable. Long term plan is make it a parts bass/Frankenstein and convert it to fretless with a warmoth neck, probably going to put some aguilar pickups in it too. Itll be changing to a 5 in a row headstock so new tuners also.Nooooo, not THAT!!!
Lately there seems to be more posts than usual about your #1 bass. No problem, I like showing off mine. Some people show off multiple basses in those threads, which is fine but, since those threads are about your #1, I "stick to the topic" and show only my #1 rather than any of my other nice basses. So, in this thread, I want to see your #2. Which bass in your collection is a really nice but, because your #1 is so special to you, it gets less playing time and is shown off less than it deserves? And why is it your #2?
Mine is a G&L L-2500 in cherryburst with matching headstock, markerless fretboard (which I LOVE), and a factory installed K-mod (single coil mode with the outer coils). I remember seeing the original owner post it for sale quite a few years ago and I drooled over it then but, at that time, I wasn’t able to buy it. Then he took it off the market. Several years later, he was updating his collection to be all six-stringers and put this one back up for sale and I jumped on it immediately. Coincidentally, in the time it was off the market, he moved across the country and was now living a few miles from where my son was going to college in Virginia – and I was going to be going there in a few days to bring my son home for spring break. So he allowed me to put down a deposit via PayPal and held it until I got down there, took payment in cash and discounted the price because he didn’t have to pay for packing and shipping. Plus I got to meet another TB’er in person. Great transaction all around!
My #1 is a Stingray 5HH and is just a perfect bass for me in so many ways. But, the more I play this one, the more I like it, especially in a band setting. It’s an absolute beast but is versatile enough to be tamed when needed and it gives me any kind of tone I need, just like my Stingray. But it doesn't fit me as well ergonomically as my Stingray does and it’s noticeably heavier, so it misses out on the #1 spot. But, if I never owned a Stingray, I could easily see this being my #1, lifer bass. Not a bad bass for a #2.

It's got my favorite setup, and cost me 1/50th of what I have invested in all my basses.
I can drop it, sweat on it, let other people come up on stage and play it, leave fingerprints on it. Play it in the rain, snow, and heat of the day and not worry about it. (Yes it has been on stage when it was actually snowing)
Typically, it's on stage as a backup to any number of other basses.

Peavey Milestone. Sound like a Jazz, neck like a Soundgear. Ridiculously well balanced and comfortable. Strung with Chromes ATM. My #2 live bass, but currently my favorite for recording.
I love this thing. 2020 Aerodyne. Best looking Fender imo. Sounds amazing too. And a Strat jack! How cool is that?

The Foundation with super ferrites is my pick for best bang for the buck, period. I had one just like that as my backup when I played only 4-stringers.
I'm honestly not sure which of my basses is No. 2 in my heart, but my Zon VB-4 is my literal No. 2 for live gigs. The playability, weight, and ergonomics are unmatched for live purposes, and it works well in my main band's live mix, but it falls just short of my trusty No. 1 (Carvin LB70 with Aeros) for overall tone and mojo across all playing and recording situations.
#2. Exactly like #1, with the same mods, except the pickguard is white instead of black. I keep this one tuned to Eb. Fender American Special, 2011, with Custom '62 Pickup. I love the "shallow C" neck profiles on these.
It was this or a Cologaurd joke. I'm not sure I opted for the high road, but there is this, brown coil and all. Not mine, but fitting none the less.
I didn't notice the foam at first. My L-2500 has Chromes on it and I like how they provide some balance to the fire-breathing MFD's. But I never considered putting a mute under the strings. I might have to give that a try to see how well it works with my band's mostly blues and classic rock play list.
