If you go to the previous page you can see where I posted my bass guitars I currently have. I just got done taking some pictures and doing the needed editing.

I do all my own setup work to my taste. I learned working on my guitars and I've been adjusting the setups for bass.

First up is the Donner DPB510-B

Donner P-Bass (2).JPG

I just got the gold anodized pickguard. It also has Oripure pups and CTS/Switchcraft/Sprague Orange Drop wiring. It wears a set of D'Addario Chromes flat wound strings. Yep, I spent more on the mods than the bass itself, but it's where I want it to be (for now). I'm really liking how she sounds and how she plays. I could have very easily stayed with the stock pups, but I wanted something a little hotter and the Oripures got me where I wanted her.

My second acquisition is My Squier Affinity Jazz Bass in the now discontinued Sonic Silver.

She's still stock as I got it from my local shop. Even wearing a set of D'Addario XLs they installed. I have a set of Fender Original Vintage Jazz Bass Pickups, CTS/Switchcraft/ Orange Drop wiring and Black/Red/Black pickguard to be installed. I'm looking for something a touch milder and warmer than the stock ceramics. I think the OVs should get me the sound I'm looking for. The setup needs a little more tweaking to my liking.

Lastly, the latest acquisition, the Ibanez TMB100 Talman Bass in Soda Blue.

I was expecting certain issues with this bass when I got it. The pups are rather hot, the preamp leaves much to be desired, pots are cheap. The stock strings were awful! the tuners , while they work, need a little help.

So far I replaced the strings and the nut and did a setup. I installed a set of La'Bella Deep Talkin' Bass strings and a Graphtech TUSQ XL nut. Tuning stability is much better. The tone is actually very useable, as long as I don't get too far into the active portion of the tonal sweep on the tone pots and keeping the volume levels low.

I haven't decided on where I want to go with it, but I 'm thinking of going passive, with a pair of concentric pots with a volume and tone for each pup and a parallel/series switch between the P and J pups. As for pickups, I'm thinking of a vintage P pickup and a hotter J pickup. This should give me a better balance between pups and give me a modestly mild parallel and a moderately hot series pairing. I tend towards a warmer vintage to moderate gain levels. What are your ideas on tone and gain levels with such a setup?

Yeah i was kidding obviously but i doubt he ONLY has Ritters, Foderas & Alembics. Are there pics of the whole collection anywhere? I tried to read but my German is way too rusty & i was waaaaay too sleepy...
I am sure he also has a lot of lower budget basses. But since he started collecting in 1963 he owns some rare collector items too. Unfortunately there are no pictures of his entire collection, just the ones in the article. He runs a club called "Zwick" in St.Pauli, the red light district in Hamburg which he turned into kind of a museum for parts of his bass collection. Must be a nice place to visit, a real man cave, attractive girls, beer and a lots of basses ...

I've been playing for a year and a half. In order of acquisition:

July, 2020 - Ibanez SR300E.
September, 2020 - Kingston whatzit
September, 2021 - Fender Player Precision
February, 2022 - Dingwall NG2

My dad bought the Kingston in a pawn shop around 1994, and Mom gave it to me when I started playing. Someone here said it was probably constructed in the 1960s. It's super short scale at 24½ inches.

I hope I don't feel the urge to buy any more basses for a while. It will take me a while to get used to five strings.

Just picked up 2 more this year; a semi-hollow body and a Pitbull kit to bring the total to 7. I can still only play one at a time though....

..well I can kinda play a little bit anyways....more like a monkey swinging from the strings to be honest....
