My first real gig (i.e. not recital, just family, etc) was when I had just turned 15. I played in a punk band and we dressed as pirates.

I played my first paying gig with a band as a drummer in 1962. I would have been about 13. They were all 16 and 17 and lost their drummer to graduation. We played local teen dances, proms, Moose Clubs, etc; the usual suspects. I took over the lead vocal chores a couple of years later. I added banjo to my arsenal in 1973 and bass in 1982. Geeez I'm an old fart.

16, it was someone from my school's birthday and we ended up playing to about 10 people. At least I got $20 out of it.

Then later that year I get to play in front of the entire senior class for our school's concert. That was about 500 people. It was crazy.

Haha I was 15 and I played in a bar called Fuel. We sucked. There were supposed to be 2 other bands playing with us but we were the only ones that showed. We played about an hour, got free Red Bull, and $50 bucks.

First paid gig at 15 Savannah Ga playing for hookers betweent tricks. A guy heard me and my buddies jammin in the backyard of the projects and asked if we wanted to make $50 dollas' playing at his club..we knew nothing about age laws..didn't care. We go to a tiny downtown bar...the guy had litterally knocked a hole in the wall to the next space that was boarded up outside and ran Christmas lights everywhere. You really had to bend down and step up to get through the hole. The hookers had matresses in the back room and would come out and dance while we played. My dad knew a cop who had a gas station across the street that would keep an eye on us. My dad, who had been a musician, wanted me to have the experience to know what it was like to play a S#&t-hole dive. We were scared but had a blast. This was back in the 70s

and I was 37 almost 38...last year...

and the guitardist got on his knees afterward and bowed to me...the picture sucks cause they are video stills...but you can so so see him to MY left him on the ground.
