My first paying gig was May of 1970 at the age of 13. I played percussion. After that, I was a permanent member of the band eventually playing guitar and inheriting the bass position after the other bass player quit and I have been playing bass for 39 years.

10 years old (5th Grade, 1968) if a gig can include playing my best friend and me playing Sukiyaki on acoustic guitars in music class..

14 years old (10th Grade) for my first gig on bass (3 songs, with Ride Captain Ride as the closer!)

i've yet to play a paying gig, gonna do that in about a month, but i played at my freind's old school's reunion type thing (bass and vocals) and at my other friends family friends christening (JUST bass and vocals, **** yeah baby) and I did all this this year, I'm 14.

I used to sing at church from the time I was 9 or 10. Not just choir stuff, but solo as well.

At age 18 in 1960. As part of a guitar trio providing pre-play entertainment for the San Diego Shakespeare Festival. Played 5 days a week for the entire season. Lots of fun.

age 40, it was great we had praticed 12 songs and got a last minute call to do a 3 set gig. we were looking at eachother going " do you know....." "Didnt we try..." Gig went well at the end we tried to get out of there as quick as possible

for bass, never. at my highschool, its impossible to find people that want to play except for the guys that play metalcore, grindcore, deathcore, and other -cores. there are a few that play good old fashioned rock, and non-over distorted metal like iron maiden and some sabbath, classic stuff. they are in their 2-3 very good bands...if they have bassist issues im in, but otherwise idk...but idk if my generation will ever play funk though no one listens to it... im scared it will die
