How to fire a guy who, without a doubt, will not take it well?

Agree with Klokker. And if the OP really wants to protect himself legally, and put himself and his band in a position to go forward without THAT GUY, he might want to delete this entire thread. Because nothing online is confidential - and, inevitably, THAT GUY could make use of the OP's online attacks (in this thread).

To the OP... don't sweat it..

My dad once fired a guy from his company when I was a kid. The guy came to our house with a gun, and shot at my old man. Your situation probably won't be as intense as those 30 seconds our life....

So, you're going to take the law into your own hands for every case of domestic abuse you see? Ok there, jesse james. You'll show them cowards what for! Break some skulls! Civil adult behavior is over rated anyway. Who wants to do that when you can always risk prosecution or having your ass handed to you by introducing yourself into other peoples private lives?

I do believe that people should step in when something wrong is happening.

However, a friend of mine was a cop who was called in on a domestic violence call. He came in to break up the fight, and was about to take the guy in, and then got attacked by the girl he was trying to help..:rollno:

Tell him you have a big meeting lined up with a major label and they specifically said they want him or there is no deal have him come to a hotel room and when he opens the door there are balloons all over that say you suck and you are fired and just like on Big Brother when someone gets the boot have each band member give a video message about how much he sucked and in the final shot his mother and girlfriend give him the bird.

I agree. This is the way to go!

This is the right answer

This is called brandishing, and is not only a crime, it's a good way to get (legally) shot dead. Show me a weapon, I can now act in self-defense.

Bone-crushingly stupid advice, man.

Agreed. It makes me hope that he doesn't have access to firearms.

You know, I've had my carry permit since 1996, own dozens of guns and usually have one on me. The day that I decide that I decide to brandish one in a moment of machismo is the day that I give them up.

Which is why the authorities should be called as a reasonable person would do, as opposed to trying to take the matter into one's own hands, which is foolish.

OP. We want updates. You made us read that long post and then blammo, nothing.

My vote would be to reform the band under a different name, cut your losses, and move foward. Don't use any of d-bag's pics, riffs, images, or anything else he may try to recoup with later. Have the radio station you are in good with to advertise that you guys are called something different now. Write, record and market yourselves immediately as the new band name.

As long as you use the band name this guy was a part of, he is going to be expecting something that you guys aren't going to give him.

PS. stop realeasing things with this guy on it...

+1! Also a big +1 to the comments about horrible advice in this thread. I'm sure the OP is smart enough not to brandish a weapon and threaten the guy...and I hope the rest of us are as well. Behavior like that will eventually land you in a cell or (more likely IMO) a pine box. Life is too short already...no need to rob yourself of what time you have left by doing something stupid...

It's like pulling off a band aid. The quicker it's done the easier it is in the long run. Make sure there are at least two of there and don't have any expensive equipment around.

And before you do any of this make sure the band is in you name. Go to your county seat and register the name of the band in your name. For a couple of bucks you can even go national with a copy right.

It's amazing how many people who thought they had rights to a band etc, like Scotty Moore, Ray Manzerik when the bottom line is reached are out of luck.

Nothing to update yet. We carefully weighed all of the input in this thread and have crafted a strategy specific to our situation. There's no chance of violence- I know him well enough that he will react emotionally but passively to the news ("I'm just really hurt that..." etc), but we will part ways on seemingly good terms after which there is a 50/50 chance of him going crazy about the situation. In the end, his response to the split will determine the direction of the project (2 potential outcomes), but he will be the only one with anything to lose. Thanks for all the input!
