How to stop Tinnitus

@Swipter you might have:
External auditory exostoses. Also called surfer's ear, this type of exostosis is caused by chronic cold water exposure. It's a buildup of bone growth in the external ear canal. There are usually no symptoms but people with surfer's ear may have hearing loss, ear infections, ear drainage, and earwax impaction.

You don't have to be a surfer to get it, but usually repeated exposure to cold air/water is involved. I don't surf frequently enough to have this, but know many who do, and some who have had the surgery to correct it. It sounds nasty, essentially boring out the ear canal.
A friend of mine had this condition. He had hearing loss and the sensation of his ear being plugged. He had surgery to remove the bone growth.

I've had tinnitus for decades and my ears are ringing as I type this. One trigger is riding in a car for long periods. The constant road noise sets it off and it lasts for hours.

Today was my first day with the full Stamets stack. I'm doing 100mg dried psilocybe cubensis, 500md dried lions mane, 50mg niacin. Three hours after my first dose my tinnitus is about half volume.

The protocol is to take this 4 days on, 3 days off and repeat this for 4 weeks, then take 2-4 weeks off to reset.

I'll report back after any significant changes or after each month for a little while in case there's interest.

mine is minor enough that sleeping with earplugs in will clear it up
If I got nuts with loud movies or music at the weekend, it comes back!

mine is so bad that sleeping with earplugs is impossible. I'm envious!

Also hopeful. My few mushroom doses so far seem to clear it up. I'm hoping this is the secret to living tinnitus free.

plus there are other benefits. Music is more enjoyable both to listen to and play with mushrooms in the system. I just grooved on a few favorite songs for a couple hours this afternoon during a time I wouldn't have normally considered even playing. And I didn't want to put the bass down and go back to work. It was like being a teenager again.

I finished my first 4 week course of the Stamets stack. There were definite periods of quieter tinnitus usually from day 2 of each dosing schedule, until the day after I stop the dosing. I'm now a week into the break from dosing and I can't tell if it's any quieter than it was before the first month of the protocol.

On a plus side the neuropathy in my feet seems to be healing pretty significantly. I'm taking 2-3 weeks off before the next 4 week dosing schedule begins. I'll up date again after the next cycle.

Pretty sure the only cure is death.

There are emerging reports of psilocybin mushrooms reversing and mitigating tinnitus. I can tell you my experience with the mushrooms was part of a protocol for neuropathy in my feet, but when I was improvements in my tinnitus, I dug deeper and found those reports. Since I'm doing this anyway, I'm planning on sharing the results with the people here.

Before I dig in myself, what reasoning would there be behind 'shrooms affecting tinnitus? There must be some idea of possible mechanisms, etc.

I have no idea the mechanisms. Nor do I care. I'm not going to bring this stuff to market, or even recommend anyone else even try it without doing their own due diligence. I only know that taking a small dose stopped my tinnitus for 4-5 days, and taking microdoses lowered my tinnitus. Both effects were temporary.

I know that there are widespread reports on improved vision and hearing that result around the time of usage, and anecdotal reports of people who claim they have reversed the tinnitus permanently. Since I'm using them for neuropathy, and I have tinnitus, I'm in a position to report on my findings. Take it with a grain of salt. I'm just a guy on an Internet forum with ringing ears at about 8kHz.

To me having at least some kind of explanation for why and what could be taking place is due diligence before I start putting weird shiz into my body. When hair cells or cilia are bent or broken, I don't know how anything can straighten them out, so I'd like to know what someone with some credibility thinks might be happening. People think rubbing minerals on their legs makes their arthritis better, and I reject that because it makes no sense, and I don't care what people say. Although at least in that case it is unlikely to damage anything. Where I used to work there was a cute lady who did it for people, so at worst it was worth something.

I agree that this is a wise path for you to take. I know that the cocktail of lion's mane, psilocybin and niacin have been shown individually and in combinations to increase neurogenesis, increase neuro plasticity, and have been shown to enhance mood, creativity and openness. Based on that alone I decided to try it for the ailment most bothering me, my neuropathy. The mainstream science on research on psilocybin is exploding in major hospitals research labs. Do a little digging, maybe you'll find something to share here. I did my diligence before embarking on my self experiments because I saw the safety profiles from the published studies and the promising studies for neuropathy. The tinnitus was a surprise, and I will be thrilled if I can make it stick.

Refardless of the mechanism of action, it's pretty easy to find the safety profile of the mushrooms in the current studies, and the contra-indications. It may be a while before mainstream medicine bothers to study the mechanism of tinnitus relief.

Heard this on our demented auntie's radio show, health report, earlier. Readers may find it interesting — the causes of tinnitus and what can be done.

They're talking also of ketamine — 'Comes on just like Special K'? :wacky: — now, potentially, playing a part in the curative-cocktail shakeup. Paging Doctor Feelgood :)

"
It sounds full-on, but it's actually similar to treatments that are having success in people with post-traumatic stress disorder, and it's working on similar principles.

Good to see we're still making some headway :) I've named my ring-in Demi, daughter of the bomb. Demi especially keeps me company on quiet nights. Love the kiddies :)

I've had mild tinnitus for about 5 years now. Most days I barely noticed it at all. But just within the last few weeks it's ramped up a few notches. Don't know why because I retired in March of 2020 and I'm a content homebody who's not around anything loud. It's quite noticeable in the mornings then seems to ramp down a bit in the afternoon then it comes back by the evening.

Certain things will really intensify the ringing, like if someone accidentally clangs a pan and it's lid together. Or if someone standing right next to me does a loud clap with their hands.

My right ear seems to get clogged up out of nowhere. It'll be fine then a slight move of my head either up or down (or swallowing) and it's clogged up. If I bend over and keep my head upside down for a while it will usually clear it up, but not always.

Caffeine will turn it up in the morning if you have coffee. Don't know about the evening.
