I think this is one that would be difficult to pull off live. It's very obviously heavily edited. I wanted to have my band try but even just trying at home it didn't work well acoustically. I love this track though.

I have played Werewolf...(his hair was perfect!) and seen it done as part of a medley in that progression...
Zevon somehow falls through the cracks though

Whoa, quite a thread. So nobody's covered Shai so far? How about Boyz II Men, at least? They had quite a few hits and people still remember them today, but the harmonies make it very very difficult.

You know, it's not my particular favorite genre, but I do dig a lot of it. I always thought that an 80s post-punk cover group would absolutely slay the crowds. You just need some serious effects handy.

The only 80s new wave I've covered live was probably "Mad World", but I'll play a lot of stuff like "I Ran" or "Call Me" when I DJ, especially after 3 AM or so. I could see a band that does nothing but that and has hair and everything doing quite well.

Different ears, different amount of wax, it really doesn't matter to me, but the chord is an F and the bass plays an A (the major 3rd? why? He never does that any other time they go to an F), which may have been done intentionally, and I suppose anything in the creative arts can be called "right," but I see it as a flub, because when he walks it down to the Dm he grabs and starts strong and confident from the F he should have grabbed the first time. Plus that A note is very subdued, almost buried in the mix (which is what I try to do when I'm a little lost and hit a clam).

But like I said, after 20,000,000 listens now, I don't really hear it as a clam either. Lots of clams made the final mix in many a pop song.

Great idea for a band name for my loose collective of friends when we jam-The Clams. Thanks.

Not a huge classic hit, but a band I was in in the 70s used to do a very credible rendition of Watcher of the Skies by Genesis in mid-western beer bars. Never heard of anybody doing this song at that level.

We did an All Summer Long/Sweet Home Alabama mash up/medley... I'd always sing "Woo hoo, woo hoo, Werewolves of London" as the backing vocal, kinda just to make the point that its MUCH the better song than any Kid Rock travesty!!!

Sorry friend- that is the type of obscure song that wasn't even much of a hit that will leave the sound of crickets when you finish.

I played in a band that did some obscure stuff, like Captain Midnight by Robin Trower, and the audience does not dig it. Other than maybe the one drunk guy in the back.

This thread is very interesting because my band goes out of its way to play classic hits that not many others do. BTW, we are an acoustic/electric trio with no drums...bass, guitar, lead singer (all sing).
We cover:
Hotel California, Still the One, Don't Stop Believing, Paradise By The Dashboard Lights, Too Much Time On My Hands....and a host of others. I still get psyched every time we play because people don't expect this from an acoustic act (we get more bookings and more $$)
