I hate looking at my #1

My favorite feeling, sounding, playing bass is the one thing that makes my stomach turn.....

Hi Jscriv :)

Nice rant! :D

I can understand you. It' s like having good sex with an ugly girl. :(

. I'd love to have it a metal flaked version of the candy tangerine fender put out

Good news is, that your bass won 't complain when you get her a refin.

My favorite feeling, sounding, playing bass is the one thing that makes my stomach turn.....sunburst. I've had it for 12 years. Gigged it everywhere. I keep one bass in my living room to just noodle around on when watching TV or if I have 5 minutes waiting for my wife or whatever it maybe. It's the only one I own that makes me cringe when I walk by. I'm probably not gonna anything about it. I'm afraid to change bodies or even have it refinned because I love the sound that much. I just wanted to complain!View attachment 3112347
Personally, I love that finish and think that bass is absolutely beautiful. But I get that that's all in the eye of the beholder and it's your bass so, if if it turns your stomach, then my opinion doesn't matter much. ;)

But I'd say that it's much harder to find a bass that feels like home in your hands and speaks with the bass voice you have in your head than it is to find one that looks perfect. Sounds like you found the right bass and that it's worth refinishing.

Life's too short. If you really hate its looks that much but still think that she's "the one", have it refinished. If it doesn't make sense to have it refinished (cost of refin/bass value ratio too high) then just look for another that sounds, feels and looks right to you, and sell this one. It's a Fender Jazz, for crying out loud...not some exotic unobtainium! :)

Look man, there's only so many years we get to spend on earth (and depending on what you believe that might be all there is).

There's just no time to be bothered by this. It is your bass. You do not want to part with it, you'll keep it and play it. So why not love it more?

Refinish that beast and love it more, life is too short to be bothered by imperfections in our favorite things, especially if we can do something about them!

DAMN I didn't realize somebody posted the exact same thing before me. Well, there we go.

I'm pretty much where you are with a bass in the same color. It's a Squier VM 77 Jazz. Plays incredibly well but I can't look at it. I should have known it would happen because I just don't like 3TSB and never have. I'll do a body swap at some point.

Not just any fender jazz. It's been chopped and modded to hell and back. Minus the bridge and the color. And since it's really worth peanuts in the resale world, all I really have is the ability to gripe on TB or toss few more bills in the pot on this one

Ah, then I think you've found the answer...it just needs one more mod!

I've also considered covering it in stickers.

When I don't like the look of a bass I otherwise love, I look at the finish as disposable... which frees me from letting worries about not banging it up getting in the way of playing the absolute poop out of it and having a great time.

I'm not a stickers guy (at least right now... tastes change), but if need to like the way the bass looks and it helps to sticker it up, by all means sticker that bad boy up. One less thing to get in the way of your performance chi.

great looking bass O.P. I think sunburst is a classic finish that looks great especially with a tort pick guard.

Honestly life is too short to stick with a bass you think is ugly.

I know people are saying the tone wont change because its a poly finish, but I'd bet subconsciously you will think it changed with a refin...

Get a new bass.
