I Just Don't Understand Fender!

But Fender is a particularly extreme example of a corporation suffering from cranial-rectal inversion. Poster-children for the syndrome, I think.
There are many, many others. My employer has been another shining example for about the last 10 years - so hung up on short term "profit" goals that they destroyed the long term future of the products and brands, then gave themselves multi-million dollar bonuses for the job they did on us. Naw, I'm not bitter. But it's par for the course these days.

No you can disparage Fender the company all you want. Just don't say anything negative about, or call into question the mystical virtues of, a Fender bass itself. Because Leo got it right the first time. And I can use a P bass for anything including dicing tomatoes. And my Made in Jakarta Squier SMOKES your Fodera....

I know better than to even issue a slight eye-roll when someone espouses the "mojo" of their abused CBS Fender p/J/strat/tele; I know cults when I see them!

What's great is when companies are so focused on profit that they lose money. It's usually a long-term / short-term discussion, but US companies are so focused on "The quarter" that they will destroy the year in order to have a great quarter. Very silly.

Yup. That's the way the game is played, though, the big investors want those big profits, and they want them right now, even if it tanks the future of the business. Whether it's musical instruments or computers, doesn't really matter at all.

I've never smoked Fodera, actually, I wonder what it's like? ;)

I don't understand single H models in either Fender or MM.

Why would a person choose to have less pups?

That single pickup is put in a location that is very hard to replicate with a two pickup bass. On two pickup Stingrays, keeping the bridge pickup in the Stingray position means that the neck pickup is very close to neck and it is awkward for slap. On the Dimension HH or Lakland, the bridge pickup is closer to the neck which gives a thinner sound.

I doubt very seriously Fender was selling a ton of these and decided to discontinue them anyway?
Stranger things have happened, but I suspect rather is that this is just another one of many models that they never really pushed nor gave much of a chance to - no chance to build up a rep or a following before they're gone - so then why bother? It's the "throw a bunch of things at customers in the hopes that at least a few of them stick" approach, rather than seriously trying to market each product.

This kind of thinking kills true innovation. The internet we use right now would never have gotten off the ground if it depended on profit initially.

Ok - I am not really a slap guy.

This is true too.
