I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

Yeah I don't get the obsession with top jacks. Seems like just another thing for people to be snobby about.

I get the obsession. If there's one thing you can say about pedal hoarders...:) But it's not a snobby thing, just a picky thing. My problem is that top jacks require expensive cables, and they don't work well in my no-top-jack setup. It's just my personal preference, which is why I never would have bitched about the format of the original Blower Box but am stoked to try out the new version.

Side jacks = wasted space that could be used by another pedal. Looks neater, too.

Wasted space? It's called breathing room. :D

I'm weird, but Here's my take on jack placement. If it's a standard (MXR sized) enclosure, I want side jacks. They'll give me room so I only step on the pedal I want. If it's a larger enclosure, top jacks are fine because you'll still only get that pedal. I probably slightly prefer side jacks because I have an angled board and if I have to put my top jack pedals up top for my chain order, there's no simple way to route my chain there. So far, not a problem, but I don't want to buy a cable kit for one cable.

But with top jacks you can choose the spacing, you don't have to place them right next to each other if you don't want to.

It's a preference for me. I can work with both but there are advantages and disadvantages. It's definitely got nothing to do with being a snob or having self diagnosed "OCD". Whatever works for people... Like I said, I mostly prefer top jacks because it is usually easier to fit ( usually, not always). In the end, side jacks, top knobs, top switches, won't stop me from buying a pedal. A side switch, however, will stop me from buying a pedal.

I think once your boards gets filled up certain features like side jacks and side power inputs start to play a big factor in the purchasing of new pedals. I am at the point where if I get a new pedal it either has to fit where an old one was or it's not happening. I don't like ripping my board apart every time I get something new. I know I have room for one maybe two more pedals and I know they have to be a certain size with certain layout to work.

I could replace my RK with a new blower box but then I will just have dead space. There won't be enough room to add two pedals. The disadvantages out weigh the advantages for me.

Yeah, my board still has wiggle room, so I'm not too worried about a lot of these. And if I decide to remove my comp, that'll free up more space too. I'm looking for how an effect sounds, since I'm still good with space on my board. I'll make it work some other way right now, since I have that freedom.

Yeah, I keep a measuring tape in my office. At this point, it's being used mostly to measure spaces on my board when I contemplate a change :)

I figured maybe he was a studio musician and didn't like the crowds. Or he's like the Mighty Oz, and just plays behind a curtain!

I went to a concert when I was a teen, before "shoegazing" was a thing. The whole band played with their backs or sides to the crowd, aside from the Drummer. They were all super awkward and looking sideways or backwards at their mics. They looked like the most socially awkward people I had ever seen up to that point, even considering everyone I had met in High School. Everyone except for the drummer of course.

I bet you those glowing eyes would have been a deal breaker for that band...
