I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

Try it from 9-10:30. It's heavy, adds a "crispness" to other effects feeding it, and still retains all the articulation.

That's the sweet spot for me, too. In my band mix, it adds a real growl to the bass sound, keeps the low ends & mids intact (to my ears), and sits in a different space to the guitar so nothing gets buried. The two band EQ really makes a difference, too, so much easier to dial in just the right sound than using a single tone knob.

I've had this pedal since April, and it hasn't been off my board since. This is almost certainly the longest an OD has stayed on since I discovered Talkbass' effects sections and the joy of GAS, lol. My only issue now is the temptation to order one of the newer models - a little bit of extra board real estate would be helpful, as I'm using a PT Nano, the extra volume headroom would be good to have even though it hasn't been an issue for me so far, and it'd give me a reason to start a 2nd/backup board. I almost pulled the trigger a few days ago and it was sold out, but now it's back in stock..

If the newer ones had top jacks, I'd order one for sure. I would probably keep my glowing eyes version anyway. But, top jacks would save some space.

I always felt this was the best demo and sounds the most like the pedal actually does in person:

Thanks!
That sounded a lot better than many other clips i have heard :)
But...why does the new version have 4 pots...the one in the video sounds just fine with 3 ( I always like fewer rather than more)

Yeah, both have 4 pots, I prefer the layout with all four on top & the smaller enclosure; but the larger box has top mounted jacks, which is a big plus, as well as the awesome design with LED eyes.

Aesthetically, both versions are great IMO, and as far as functionality goes, the newer model seems better. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I pull the trigger on one, but I'll definitely be keeping the older one if I do.

You think Matt might be able to do a small box version with just the three pots the big one had?
Nope, because the big one had 4 pots. One was on top by the in and out jacks.

See it? Sticking out of the top?

I've been playing around with the B3K+BB combo for a few days now. Having a hard time with it, honestly. In order to get a tone I really like with them in tandem, I almost have to set them up to be kind of useless individually. With a good eq balance on the BB solo, it tends to get really trashy sounding when the B3K is engaged.

The biggest problem I'm having right now though, is that the BB will not function on battery power. Emailed Matt about it and everything he suggested to check internally looks fine. Hadn't heard back from him in a few days so I started messing with it some more today. Seems to be some sort of issue with the input, because the only way it will turn on is if I hold my signal cable half way in the input jack at a weird angle. Bad grounding maybe? Trying to talk to Matt about rectifying this in some way, as it's pretty disappointing to have the pedal not 100% functional right out of the box.

Yup. Those two pedals are not built to play well together, in my experience with each if them individually (well, B7k).

Well if they don't work well together, why stack them then? Are you trying to get a certain dirty sound with both? I run my BB with a B7K all the time and they sound awesome together. But I run my 7 clean. They're two pretty different pedals. Just curious why you'd want to stack the two.....

I was just curious how it would sound, really. I guess I was kind of hoping it would work for a "kind of dirty, to dirty, to really dirty" setup, lol. At first I thought I wasn't liking the BB since it doesn't play nice with the B3K, which I guess I was overly attached to have as my always on dirt for a while now. Playing around with them more individually, I think I'm actually stating to lean towards using the BB at lowish gain for an always on. The B3K is starting to sound kind of sterile and weak in comparison.

Ended up figuring out the Battery issue too. The specific live wire cable I was running into the input of the BB wasn't making a proper ground connection, it seems. Really weird though because that cables works perfectly fine with anything else I plug it into, lol.
