I respect anyone's preference, but I've had Ric's (but I prefer to have an audible E string and flesh on my right forearm). I've had Ray's (ergos were just wrong for me. Pickup is a bit rearward to me and felt stiff when playing with fingers and whacked the crap out of it with a pick.). Gibson's (came with free crooked shirts). On and on with others...all had good/bad qualities to me personally. A Precision is always what I came back to, but I have Jazzes as well.

I just wanted one Precision...but God said two...so I said cool, eleven it is.

But this AVRI '59 is my desert island bass.

As someone who owned P Bass #0186, answer is no. I'm done with long scale, single coil p/u scene. They're just huge and heavy -- after being a P Bass slave for years, I just moved on.

If I could only have one, then yes, it would be a P style type of bass, not necessarily Fender, with EMG GZR pups and D'Addario Chrome Flats. As matter of fact I already have the one, if I could only have one. She's not fancy, nor is she expensive, $248 for everything, bass, parts, strings, and strap. She took a little work to get her like I wanted. And she is my fav right at the moment, of the four basses I own.

Wouldn't be a P. I've only ever played 2 different P basses, a cheap Samick "kit" bass and a Fender Cabronita P. Wasn't a fan of either. Obviously, my experience is limited in the P realm but I've been quite happy with the several different Ibanez BTB's I've had over the years.

Mine wound the one in my avatar, a Squier VM Mustang. However, I've been thinking about adding a 2 band pre-amp with a stacked knob, active/passive toggle and a stacked volume/tone knob. On the odd chance I do something else, It would probably be a Squier Bronco modded to mimic a Schecter CV-4!

Maybe, maybe not. I've owned a lot of nice basses, and made them (mostly) all work nicely. I love to play....it doesn't have to be a particular brand or model, just a good sounding and playing bass. Just give me some really good musicians, and I'm good to go. I don't pick nits.
