I know I'm going to get whopped for this in the comments, but I really want some stats, as it's something I have been intrigued by for some time. Please answer the poll, and have fun in the replies if you want to.

FWIW, I will be answering P bass.

One bass? One and the only one I'll ever have? It would be a PB..... with Round wound strings.... and a tort!

No, A Rickenbacker 4003SW. It does a P bass tone tolerably well, but it also gets that super-resonant Ricky growl.

The P is a standard; but, there are other Fender sounds out there to cover as well.

My one bass would certainly be able to cop a legit P sound. But, I would need more.

If I had to sell all but one the keeper would clearly be my Dingwall. But my Dingwall does supposedly have two reverse p pickups in it. So yes and no.

No. Based upon what I currently own, it would be my XL2. Owned it since new in 1986.

After putting a Jazz spec'd neck on my MIM P, I'd say it's definitely moved up the list...

I slapped a CIJ geddy neck on a Pbass with custom.shop 62 pickups. It's easily my number 2 in the stable. Right behind my pair of ebmm sterlings.

I had one electric bass (precision special) for 36 years, played a ton of gigs with it and was happy. Never thought to bother looking at basses.
Then I discovered TB classifieds...

Now I also have an Alembic fretless, Jazz Special fretless, Ibanez 5 string and an old Ibanez.
And a second upright.
TB classifieds are a dangerous thing.

I'm assuming the knobs are volume and tone, and that you've got a three-way pickup selector plus single/dual coil selectors for each pickup?

Yeah bingo. It's a Roscoe Beck V. Passive bass - amazing range of tones. The switches do single/series/parallel on each pickup. It doesn't have individual pickup vols but it does have a neck pickup cut by pulling the vol knob. I've been meaning to do a demo vid. The neck pickup puts it in the P bass ballpark - doesn't nail it - but does the 'sits in the mix' thing that we love on the P. You can then dial in different flavours of PJ and plain ol JJ.

I've owned it for about 6 months now and my 63AV RI P has not left the rack.
