Zeppelin debut (LZ 1) cannot touch "DP In Rock" when it comes to musical originality and inventiveness.
Blackmore cites LZ as an influence for In Rock.

We consciously sat down and said, "Let's have a go at being really heavy." It was after hearing Zeppelin, I think.

I think they are.Musician for musician they are real close and Deep Purple created a sound with the combination of keyboard/guitar that has stood the test of time.Plus they were radio airplay[Hush] before Zep was even a band or on the airwaves.I think Sabbath is up there as well for thier type of music. All 3 of those bands made major contributions to music as we hear it now.Just my 2 cents.

One simple question should probably give an indication that answers the real question of this thread...

...Going back a few years, just for the sake of being young enough to pull off a legit show...

If Zeppelin and Purple both went out on world tour back in 2007, Zep with Jason Bonham.. You can have any iteration of Purple that you want.. Who's shows would be sold out in 4 hours or less in every city around the world with any ticket that pops up on Stub Hub disappears instantly for $500 to $5,000 a piece and who's shows would rarely sell out?

Be honest...

We'll never know the answer to that because Purple have been out there steadily since MKII got back together in the early-mid 80's. If MKII broke up and Purple ceased to exist in 74 things might be very different. And to be honest I'd rather listen to a bag full of Deep Purple farts than one more out of tune Plant yelp or Page finger flub. Honest.

Well, hav they been doing arena shows or the Casino Curcuit? Selling them out or meh? Records been going Gold or better?

Zeppelin's Celebration Day show at the 02 Arena in 2007 was amazing, all things considered.. And with Bonham on the drums that night, l think it was legitimately real Led Zeppelin that night. They rocked that place hard..

I'm checking out more DP, but so far I prefer the writing and arranging in Zep. I imagine live DP is better than live Zep, but since I've never seen either and likely never will, that doesn't matter to me. Page gets bashed for being sloppy, but he could write and he could produce.

You're completely disregarding what I said about Purple staying active. Purple doesn't have the current novelty factor Zeppelin does. I'm not debating current popularity. Obviously LZ is held up to an almost mythical status but I think that has a lot to do with how and when they went away. And Purple draws pretty well. Better overseas than here but here it's arenas and large theaters. Zeppelin would undoubtedly do stadiums.
