Is global warming fake?

Very true. Have you ever been to South Dakota in the winter and heard the anecdotal evidence from THOSE residents? Nothing short of amazing. Their baby fighting season always starts at the first thaw when the kids still have a lot of winter fat (it helps in certain disciplines). Over the last 20 years, they've had to postpone the first week's bouts due to snow ins at least 6 times. This was plain unheard of during the height of baby matches in the 1970's.

We moved south where year-round training is possible.

What a wonderfully un-witty retort. :eyebrow:

Well, I WAS going to attempt to solve the world's problems by arguing on the internet, but I figured posting about random crap was more productive.

Other acceptable reposnses to your quoted post would have included the word "ditto" and included the KJung-style smug smilie or just been pictures of babies with brass knuckles.

Ever been to Norway in winter and heard anecdotal evidence from the people who live there about how their lives have changed due to milder winters? I have. That's good enough for me - speaking to the people whose lives have been affected by it is a lot more convincing than pages full of numbers and graphs.

You are correct. I live on the west coast of Norway and though we usually have a lot of rain and mild winters, the past couple of years have been exceptionally mild and especially very very wet. The number of floods have increased quite a bit and we see the sun less and less. A bit depressing if you ask me.

See a lot of people are talking about natural variations of the earths climate. The case is that during the last 50 years the climate has warmed more rapidly than during other similar climate change periods spanning thousands of years. And these other periods in time have seen a slow and gradually increasing temperature variation contra todays situation.

The scientific method, unfortunately, is not being applied in this case. I graduated with honors with a biology degree, so I did a LOT of work within the scientific method. I never once heard the term 'consensus' used as a part of it.

I'm actually on the fence about the percentage impact that human based activity has on what is clearly a warming trend.

However, consensus is a HUGE part of the scientific method. Another name for it is 'peer review'. It keeps the 'out in left field' ideas from becoming accepted scientific theories (and the term 'theory' is also greatly misunderstood).

Consensus is a key point of the scientific method. Another key point is the rejection and modification of a theory as new data emerge. I believe the global warming literature is undergoing that sort of scrutiny and modification at the moment. Previously, many fought against the idea that the earth was going through a warming trend. However, that's pretty much a given at this point, from my understanding of the literature. However, the 'cause' of this warming (is it 'human independent', 10% human caused, or primarily human caused through cars, cattle, deforestation, etc., etc., etc.) is still very much in the early stages of investigation.

IMO:)

I'm not talking about science. I'm talking about real-life effects. It just so happens that the real-life effects back up the science. That is, the science that confirms global warming, that pretty much the rest of the world other than North America has accepted.

So, you didn't even read the scientific article by the Australian scientist in the original post....

Yeah, just jump on the "American so stupid! We destroy world and everything," train, because there might be holes in your pet theory.

People have posted direct challenges to the theory in this very thread, and you just ignore them. You don't even try to refute them, just mock them. Really scientific attitude. "I must be right, you're stupid if you don't agree."
