Is this the latest eBay scam?

I'm pretty sure this violates ebay's terms of service, and from my experience they definitely honor their money back guarantee, so I am no worried at all.

EDIT: I should have read the ad before posting.... this looks like a weird joke, not a scam. The seller never once claims to be selling a bass and uses strange emoji's. Carry on.

The other reason to walk away is you just don't want bad vibes, bad memories attached to your instrument. It isn't worth it, even if you got a great deal. Your instrument is something you'll be holding in your arms and sharing with it your time, effort, aspirations and love of the music. You really don't want any dark stuff getting in the way. I've been there.

Huh??

Selling labels, and does not want to use Paypal, because users will ask refund.
Plenty of those around on eBay for various items.

Oh my word! But the listing doesn't even say that the free gift is the bass. It just says that you will get something as a free gift. The free gift could be a coffee mug. Nor does it say you will definitely receive it, it just says that you "may" receive a free gift.

So I had to read this a number of times before I realized what this guy was even talking about.

I.D. Label For Heartfield DR-5 Bass, black sparkle finish, no fret wear, etc. | eBay

The gist of it is that the seller doesn't claim to sell the bass but intimates that he will ship it to you after you purchase the "ID tag" and you were payment has been held by him for several weeks.

His assertion is that PayPal can yank money from a bona fide seller anytime within the first three weeks for a little reason.

But if you look a little more carefully, it appears that what he's trying to do is 1)get you to send him the purchase price for a bass without actually ever explicitly and therefore without contractually mentioning that he is selling you a bass and 2) he holds your money until the PayPal window of protection elapses so if he doesn't even want to send you the bass he doesn't have to. And if he actually does intend to send it to you, you have no buyer protections.

So beware everybody!

If someone is stupid enough to get taken by this, they deserve to lose their money. It never ceases to amaze me how gullible people can be.

This is definitely a scam... but to the people defending paypal because they have never held your money, consider yourselves lucky. I used to sell on ebay all the time. Had close to 300 positive feedbacks and paypal held my money on two separate occasions for no reason. The first was for "suspicious activity" on my account. Whatever that means. The second time they didnt even give a reason. They held $1800 of mine from a motorcycle sale on ebay for three month. Both the buyer and myself were happy with the transaction. But paypal didnt care. Thats when I closed my account with them. All you have to do is google it and youll find tons of stories of paypal holding funds from people that did nothing wrong. Hell, they just lost a class action lawsuit over it. I use google wallet now. F paypal.

I'd be interested to hear the actual reason. There must've been one. From your perspective you were screwed for no reason and that may be the case but I'd bet there's more to it.

I bet theres not. 296 positive feedback at 100%. Not one complaint from a buyer. Paypal sits on your money and collects interest on it as long as they can. Getting ahold of customer service to didspute it is nearly impossible. Google "paypal sucks" and youll find websites filled with thousands of people that have had thousands of dollars held for absolutley no reason. You can believe what you want, but dont be surprised when they do it to you.

Ebay does claim they can hold money up to 21 days, but this is for new sellers or sellers that haven't built up enough feedback. They always claim it can be up to 21 days, but I've always gotten it much sooner. They release funds 2 days after the buyer gets the package (if you enter in tracking to ebay). So the seller isn't wrong about the 21 day bit, but everything else reads like a scam.

Actually things have changed with PayPal... you can now do the Pay on Delivery thing which means a buyer's money is held by PayPal until the buyer receives the item and deems it ok. So good for buyer protection, but this means eBay is now a marketplace where buyers are free to order things just to try out and if they change their mind even get the seller to pay for return shipping.

Wow. Is that for all sellers or just new sellers?
