Is Wearing Sunglasses On Stage Douchey?

The guy on the left is actually saying "douche". He's also in the process of flipping us the bird!

By all the gods I think you're right.
As bassists, we're quite used to being flipped the bird.
Maybe he's yelling the chords to the guitar player...........

Cool factor is deuchebaggery. Its for the children of the world, after you get over yourself at around age 25 no one else who matters really cares. If your 35+ and still trying to look cool, your likely doing it for that 17 year old groupie, whether your aware of this or not. You then have two issues (one, your a deuchebag who never grew up and two, your probably need help before you go to jail for chasing underage groupies).

???

:D

Man, you have a twisted mind...

I wear them because I sing with my eyes closed and I think that makes me look silly. Also, with my sunglasses on, nobody can see me looking at my cheatsheets...

Half of this quote is valid. I don't use a cheatsheet. But I got used to mostly singing with my eyes closed with my old band because if I stepped up to the mic, the lights were right in my freakin' eyes!

I'm just under six feet and just over 300 pounds. That makes me kind of goofy looking to begin with. So any extra goofiness is entirely unnecessary and to be avoided.

That said: Sunglasses are goofy. But they are less goofy than squinting your eyes closed while you try to remember the lyrics.

Cool factor is for entertainment - I consider myself an entertainer first, musician second. So I'm thinking cool factor is more for the people beyond the edge of the stage, not me. My projected image or cool factor says, "53 yr. old hippie-ish musician with eclectic instruments." Reality is I'm a self-employed watchsmith with 7 kids(3 are step-kids) over age of 20 and 3 grandchildren.:bassist:

As always, some can pull them off, some can't. IMO, they tend to work a lot better on old people than the other way around.

Old, by the way, means old enough to have a significant amount of white in your hair, and owning it. This guy embraces it, has a bit of that Duck Dunn thing going, and as a result is lookin' like the other side of the pillow.

Old does NOT mean, 35+, with a gut, but still trying to look young and dangerous. That looks douchey.

Some young guys can do it too, all depends on the context IMO. I can pull them off for a greaser impression in my rockabilly band, but look like a douchebag in my rock or folk/country band.

I am 21, if that matters.

People of all ages seem to wear shades. I'm thinking young people are more likely to wear them at times when they seem inappropriate, like inside a medium to darkly lit area.

My Dad was white-haired all my life - I started following suit around 25. But a lot of 20s would die for my hairline. And no Rogaine. Must be something I eat:D like whisker-biscuits.http://www.ebay.com/bhp/whisker-biscuit

I see a lot of young guys with guts trying to look cool - who looks sillier, young guy with gut tryin to look cool or old guy. I don't have a gut and workout so I look old & dangerous - there is such a thing. Closing in on 54 here

Opinions on this may be generational slanted. "Greasier impression" - heh!
