I would rather see that than 'The American', where it's khaki shorts (creeping up on the inside leg), shapeless T-shirt (smock?), goatee and baseball cap.

I do it outside. I see nothing wrong with it. Inside, yeah it's a little stupid looking. Nowhere near as douchey as barefeet and/or shirtless though.

... if you can see their eyes, what with having your sunglasses on indoors. Anyway, yeah, look them straight in the eye, and they won't know that you're looking them straight in the eye, because they won't be able to see your eyes, so... OK so this advice isn't working out so well.

At least sunglasses make it look as if you made an effort. What bugs me is people showing up to the gig looking as if they just rolled out of bed and threw on whatever was closest (granted, there are some musical styles/scenes where such a look is appropriate). You're on stage - put on a show.
