Jimmy's fault... (Ampeg content)

I really don't find the weight of the SVT and the 8x10 to be that bad. The 8x10 is easy to slide into my SUV and better than lifting a 4x10. I purchased a dolly for all my gigs so I take the amp from the car onto the dolly then have a band member help me get it on the 8x10. A dolly that can fold flat is the best investment if you gig a lot. In one trip I get all of my gear including my 212av if I bring it for a gig.

I called ampeg direct and ordered a black grill that included the badge and I believe it was $40-50.

That is one clean USA SVT. Any idea what kind of tubes he has in it?

I just took a flashlight and peered into the back, it has a full compliment of SOVTEK tubes at this point. I'm not sure if that is good or bad. I'll happily run it as is for now, when it's time to re-tube I'll buy the best replacements that I can afford. I'll now start to pay attention to "tube" threads. I'm guessing that opinions regarding tubes here on TB are as varied as opinions regarding tort guards, the best bass for metal and carrots.

There have been some studies that the earthquake on the east coast a couple of years ago was caused by some shifting of the Atlantic and European plates. NOT true. It was caused by me, my SVT and two 8 10's.
You're gonna love it. Get some foundation straps on your house though.;)

My house was built in 1910, the foundation is built of 24" thick rough cut blocks of limestone. I think that I should be okay. :D

I don't have a gig tonight, so I've been tearing it up with the SVT Classic/SVT 212 AV combination. First impressions? HOLY CRAP! I was already happy with the SVT 212 AV cabinet, but man, this head really makes it talk. I played my RIC through it first and then one of my P-basses with flats. WOW, just WOW!

And at the end of day, we are musicians, so the best tone ever should always be our focus...

Drummer 5359 please do not take this the wrong way but after all you read around TB about this and that, I get stoked as hell seeing an older fellow buying an SVT! Congrats!

No offense taken whatsoever. I've lightened the load in ways that make sense to me. My PA mains no longer weigh 90 pounds each. I'm using QSC K-12s which weigh 43 pounds each and I no longer have to carry heavy racks full of separate amplifiers.

But for guitar and bass amplification nothing sounds like glowing glass. Whatever it takes to have the sound in my head. I am an older guy, but I'm a serious musician. I've played in bands as a drummer for forty years next to every bass rig that you can imagine. The SVT sound IS the sound in MY head. As a bassist it is what I've been striving for. I worked my way up to this. The SVT 3 Pro that I've been using is a really nice amp, really it is. I'm not getting rid of it, this is me finally realizing the dream of owning and playing through what I consider the ultimate amp.

Yes, that is how I see it too.

Those QSC K12s are really great. My friend runs two of those for his keyboard on stage stereo. Those things can get loud but also stay clean. I love em

What drums do you favor?

Man I see vintage Slingerlands for great prices all the time on our CL problem is they are always across town from me and Atlanta traffic keeps me at bay. I love Slingerlands
I remember back in the day (early 70's) when Roger's were "the" drums to have. I just dated myself:)
