there should definitely be an Entwistle tribute album.
Billy Sheehan, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, John Paul Jones, Jean-Jacques Burnel would all be great choices due to the Enwistle-inspired tones they used (maybe also Steve Harris too).

My god. I'm new to the instrument (3 years playing), and The Ox was one of my biggest inspirations. With him gone, I'm sure one of the greatest chapters in the history of bass playing has just closed. JE was the best at what he did, and one of the greatest bassists to walk the earth. The world will greatly mourn your loss John. We pray for you, and I believe I speak for bass players everywhere when i say may you rest always in peace.

I was just at GC and they were playing Who's Next over the store system; I was humming along to the songs as I walked around the store.

Then I come home and find out the Ox is gone.

Entwhistle was a huge inspiration when I was learning to play bass in the early '70s. How sad.

You can add Matt Freeman (Rancid) to that list. I recall seeing an interview where he said that The Ox was basically the reason he learned bass. That's just another example of the breadth of Entwistle's influence. He was a giant.

He was one of my early heros too.....I wore out Live at Leeds learning bass! One thing that is certain.....he wasn't one of those guys that faded away and died.......the Who where kicking major ass on that last tour! It's a sad day in bassland

Heart attack, found dead in the Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas.

He was the reason I started playing bass back in 1983. This is probably the hardest pill for me to swallow since picking up the bass.

He will be sorely missed.
