Thanks Jule.
I really have no worries or second thoughts when we're on the road. This setup has been really bulletproof.
I also have few fears when I'm sharing my rig with others. Anyone who's doing the grind and playing with an opener or being an opener knows that this is pretty standard operating procedure at many club small theater and even some festival shows. In the past week alone it's been used by 3 openers. I have no fears that anything will go wrong for them or for me. I can be sure that they'll also have a great experience, since Monique sounds great no matter how you have it set. I also know that it will be absolutely no problem to get back to 'my sound' when someone else has turned knobs.
It's also my security blanket when I'm in a rush situation and they've provided an amp on stage...I unplug their head, put my setup next to the cab and plug in, and instantly feel at home.
It gets compliments from sound engineers, other bands and the audience. People who I never knew were paying attention in some cases. One show recently, I had an engineer say that he couldn't figure out how I could be sounding that good, that loud and that he'd never heard a setup that was this good. He said that he'd heard a lot of bass players try to do what I do and not get anywhere close.
A good ways back, I used a Mesa 400+ for about a year or so. It had two channels, 16 tubes, two tone stacks, a graphic EQ, pretty much as much as anyone would want. Except that I could never ever get it to sound right to me. Spent all my nights with my back to the audience trying to get it just right, and no big or little tweaks would get me there. I eventually sold it. Monique is just the opposite. I never have to look at it. It just sounds right and when my settings aren't quite what I'm used to, it still sounds great, just different. It's the best sounding amp with the smallest feature set ever.
I'm a big proponent of playing 'in the moment,' so having an amp that can allow for that is really nice...and the crowds seem to keep getting bigger.
