Jule Amps Monique part 5

After the M2500 talk as if it were just a splurge or wild flight of fancy...as usual comes a show that supports the idea that this IS a necessity in some situations.

Saturday night show at a regional public theater, 200 cap 'bar/cafe' setting with a low stage. They don't do a whole lot of 'full bands' but more folk and acoustic stuff. A quick discussion with house sound shows that the PA is underpowered and that the subs specifically are underpowered. We quickly decide that we'll 'save' the PA headroom for kick drum and I'll be using my rig for FOH bass.

We check, and play the 'cue the bass player to bring the rig up or down' with our band sound/tech person out front to make sure we're getting a decent representation of our live mix. What it ends up being is my rig close to the limits of what a dual 15/6-15sub wants to comfortably do (with it EQ'ed to provide deeper lows that you'd want from FOH).

My personal strategy was to get as far away from my amp as possible, pull myself all the way out of my IEM mix and just get used to hearing myself extremely loud. ;)

Did we pull it off? Yes. No one in the crowd noticed there wasn't any bass in the PA...and any of our fanbase present thought the mix was really good.

Yikes! But thank you for asking. Both it and the Simone (minature tube Pedalish kinda-like-Monique thing) will be ready to show at NAMM in Skip's booth. People keep (ain't complaining at all) putting money into the juleamps shop, and when they do that they go ahead of everything. Priorities.

Monique tucked quietly by my feet tonight for a live-in-studio set for broadcast and video later this week. They had a sad that I didn't want one of their U5's, but overcame it really quickly once they heard Mo' in the control room. They had a tiny little front end for the 30-invite only guests, and we all ran our IEMs in the room, drums and guitar amps, Leslie were isolated.

What I heard on their big control A speakers sounded fantastic, as always. For recording I only make two changes from our live sound.

-I draw the 'sensitivity' control down to about 7 or 8 o'clock, and I run my bass' pickups in parallel rather than series.

Looking forward to hearing this since we could do things like run all the keys in stereo, etc. A bit fish-out-of-water to be in the studio, but playing for a tiny audience and obviously only getting one take per track. Sometimes it felt like a really fun live show, sometimes a bit ***...especially having kit entirely behind us and isolated.

I posted this over in the Dingwall thread but not here yet...The live-in-studio was broadcast last night on WXTL-105.9FM here (a handful of TB'ers did get to listen) and the nice people who broadcast the show did send me the audio. I'm going to get it up on our soundcloud, but in the meantime, here's the uncompressed WAV file that I've dropped on my google drive. You should be able to stream it. This actually has a few songs more than what was broadcast, and I think doesn't edit out all our between song comments.

Liking the new stuff; and always liking the old stuff! The CD and EP are in my regular rotation. I was checking out your site a couple of weeks ago to see what was coming up in the area over the next month or two but there's nothing listed past mid-September. Are you taking some "live" time off, or is the site just not up to date?

I just haven't gotten a chance to update. :( Lots of shows. For right now the FB is the place with most updated info, although I know there's a bunch that haven't even hit that yet. We'll be back in the Buffalo area coming up as well.

Thanks -- I'm not on FB so don't think to check that out. I see you're at Three Heads here in town Friday night; will see if I can make it!

Oh cool!! I was going to ask when you might hit B-Lo. Please send me a link to the show. I will definitely come out - with some friends!:bassist:
