Jule Amps Monique part 5

NBD!!!! New bag day.

I finally got sick of constantly being asked why I was bringing a Sleep Apnea machine to gigs :Dand Jule happened to have a Studio Slips bag lying around at his shop. Actually, the Philips Medical bag didn't quite fit Minnie AND Monique stacked.

Just received it (thanks Jule, your help is much appreciated as usual) and it is well made, super light, fits my Dovecage/Minnie perfectly and looks great.

The zipper for the Minnie compartment isn't quite as heavy duty as the one for the Monique compartment, but I think it will stand being dragged around 100+ times a year for gigs and rehersals.

As usual, dealing with Jule on anything is a great experience. Also, shipping the bag (or my 3 Jule amps) from Cali to Canada was also a dream. Any Canadians on the fence about ordering an amp from Jule in Santa Cruz shouldn't give it a second though. Dave at Clubbass sells them too. I bought my Minnie from him last year....

Plus, if you order an amp (not bag), a lifetime supply of shipping peanuts is included for free. :roflmao:
I have my Dove cage permanently attached to my Minnie with dual lock velcro. It just saves a few seconds on setup.

So for those of you that may do this as well, I found a really nice, snug bag for this....

It is a really high quality padded bag that has just enough room to fit both of them stacked in the main compartment. It also comes with extra padding as well if you want to secure it even more.. And it comes with a protective rain cover! Btw, It has rubber feet on the bottom as well. There is also room for your speaker, and IEC cables.

The bag is made really well, and so are the zippers. It retails for 89.95. Check it out.
That is a very nice looking bag.

Finally had some time off today without a list of things to do, so......
I cranked up Monique with 2 GS112s, put on "Life Before Insanity" through the P.A. and blew the walls out!

Been a long time since I've been able to crank it up and jam and man it felt good.

I've been busy rehearsing for shows, learning new songs and breaking in the TH500. So it felt great doing some good jam music and hearing the solid tone of Monique.

Monique just can't be beat. One of the people that really influenced me when I got back into playing was Allen Woody. His stuff with Gov't Mule was incredible stuff and I could play that stuff all day. And Monique (with the Aggies) nail it for me.

Thanks for indulging me. It was fun & I am so glad I have a Monique as part of my gear!

This bag is looking perfect!
Instantly ordered one.
Thanks.

Jule,
I mean it. I stay so busy with my job, traveling and getting ready for our shows. All that is fun, I have a blast at our shows, but it is a great feeling to jam with your favorite music with such great equipment.

But I can't do that too often, cause it makes me want to call up Warren Haynes & Matt Abts and begging them to let me jam with 'em. :D

Well,,,I've had the Mo for about three days now...and it just keeps getting better...I just keep turning every EQ and Sensitivity knob(kind'a blind tone taste test...LOL), In fact, at my last rehearsal, I had my horn player turn knobs as I played in all different combinations...then quickly jotted down set-up and moved onto the next twist...slowly narrowing all the desired tones...gotta say all of them were great.
Thanks Jules...Killer ...Just a Monster!!!!!!

just asking a question about substitute tubes...there is nothing wrong with the MO!...I just like having back ups just in case...I ve done this with all my tube amps.

2x 6N5P's or 6SL7....Looking at Northern Electric
12AU7...can a 12AX7 be used??...distortion?... load greater?...problems?...I have 12ax7 Northern Electric in stock at house.
6CA4 or JJ-EZ81....is there another number/tube I can use for rectifier? or do I have to use JJ's???

I apologize if this was covered...but I did not see it in past posts

thanks

Thank you Randy. It is, after all, about having fun.

A good set of 6SL7 tubes isn't a bad idea at all. Better yet, a second or third Monique. :-) And yes, a rectifier (6CA4) and a 12AU7 too, as long as you are going that way. After hearing a couple thousand 6SL7 tubes, I still prefer the Shuguang 6SL7 (made for the Russian market). For a long time I preferred the Tung Sol 6SL7 in the EQ position. It has less gain compared to the Shuguang or EH. The EH 6SL7 usually sounds good, but manufacturing and tone is not consistent. For my customers, I can not use NOS tubes because they are not readily available. They (NOS) can be great, but they are unpredictable.

There is a supple dynamic to the Shuguang 6SL7 that is hard to beat. Not at all stiff. Not saggy. I found out about it from some of the very high end home stereo builders.

The 12AU7 sounds greatly better for bass than a 12AX7. You can get by with a 12AX7 or even a 12AT7.

As to the JJ 6CA4 Rectifier, I had to give up on them years ago. Too many of them had a filament failure. It would just go dark. Since then I have changed to the EH 6CA4 and I think I have had only one fail in burn-in/testing, and to my knowledge, none have failed for my customers. If you can get hold of a good EZ80 Rectifier, that is a good substitute. Unfortunately I can't find any that are currently being manufactured. They (the EZ80) will give a bit more natural compression than the 6CA4/EZ81.

Okay, so there are four tubes in Monique?

For us tube neophytes, Jule, would you mind giving a quick run down of what each does and its position in the signal chain?
