Jule Amps Monique part 5

I've got a strange noise with monique, even with volume/sens knobs all the way down (monique->apogee duet 2->headphones). Any ideas?
Monique with the levels off is putting out nothing - zero, so that should help your troubleshooting.

New info: (monique (powered off)->duet) as soon as i connect the power cable to monique I've got that noise (monique power switch at OFF position!) Have tried several power cables with the same results
Loop. Something is not happy in your ac circuit. The wrong way to eliminate the noise is to use a 2 prong adapter. THis is wrong because it just covers up the ac wiring problem, which could be a safety issue.

You can try plugging everything into a single power strip that is correctly grounded. That should get you going. And that is safe electrically.

Thanks for answers! I'll try it
These incidents at not fun, but truth is, they end up showing us something that is best taken care of in a secure professional way.

All good electronic (high voltage) equipment has one very important wire that goes from the third "ground" plug of the power cable directly to the chassis. This wire is purposely kept very short, less than three inches, because with that wire in place connecting earth grounds together we are all protected from any kind of possibly injury due to the failure of anything inside that piece of gear. Not trivial.

I know this has nothing to do with Bass, but it can be very important. Several years ago I was able to help a player (guitar) identify a hum that was caused by the absence of a ground rod connection to the main power panel of the building. Electrical work had been done and it had been forgotten. Sounds insignificant until I learned that this was a Church in Lightning country. They were able to correct it by adding a ground rod before anyone was hurt.

And yes. I am at NAMM, and I do wonder what is inside all this gear.

Played around with the Monique all weekend. Here is what I sent to the fellow TBer who sold her to me (Thanks Mike, you the man):

Dude, picked it up on Friday afternoon after I got off work, brought it home and opened up the package. This is truly a thing of beauty. Just downright gorgeous. Plugged it in and played around on it, tweaked the knobs around, liked what I heard. The next morning, was thinking about the sound (crazy I know) and went back and played around some more, liked it even more. Throughout the day I would stop what I was doing and kept going back to play around on it. Just something about the sound, nice warm tone with clarity and depth. The more I heard the more I wanted to hear.

I have an Aguilar DB112 and a Euphonic Audio VL210. It sounds amazing with the Aguilar, I'm not so sure on the EA cab, need to tweak it some more. If I can't get happy with the EA pairing I'll sell it and get another DB112 (would be more portable anyway).

Brought it to church on Sunday morning, the other guitar players loved it. Didn't have the normal sound guy (he was a little overwhelmed I think with everything else going on) so I couldn't get true feedback, yet.

I do dig it, great sounding rig.

Yes it does.

For both the Tardis 700 and the Rack Mount 700, a separate Amp Input that goes direct to the amp (bypassing Monique) just seemed like a good thing to do when we first started with this 700 watt amplifier. At the time I did not know how useful it would be. I have already seen it used as an interesting Effects Loop as well as for re-amping and other Studio work.

The Amp Input that goes directly to the amp is on the back of both the Tardis 700 and the Rack Mount 700 now.

You do not have to use Monique and the 700 watt amplifier together. In both 700 watt versions of the Tardis and the Rack Mount Monique you can use either Monique by herself, or the 700 watt amp by itself if that is what you want to do. This is the real world we work in, so flexibility helps.

The M700 Stand-Alone Amplifier has its own Volume Control, but beyond that it is essentially like the Amp Input on both the Rack Mount and Tardis 700s.

Hey Jule,

If I run into a situation where I want to stay out of the PA, yet the soundman still wants control of my volume, does your post above mean I can send a DI out of Monique to the board, then (if the board has room for another output) back into the amp portion of the Tardis or Rack 700, all the while giving the sound man complete control of the volume of my rig?

Thanks

Yes.

You will still retain final level rights via both the Sensitivity and Level Controls for both the DI and the Line Out, (or the Volume on M700) but your sound person can control everything if you wish. Sounds good to me.

Well, I was speaking a bit tongue in cheek, and certainly quoting selectively for effect (reality TV editing!) but I would have to really trust a soundman before I would let that happen. Like really trust him. Or her. Like, really a lot. The point is, there would have to be trust involved. We would have to trust each other. There would have to be an understanding. I know that you say you've got my best interests - our best interests - at heart, but I'd have to really know it, you know what I mean? I'm not sure I'm even ready to think of an "us" in those terms yet. It's not that you're not great - you are, totally - I'm... I'm just not sure I'm ready for this stage in our relationship, yet.
