Jule Amps Monique part 5

I was noodling around on my bass so I decided to geek out. I made a few signal chain placement DI comparisons if anyone is interested, just because I'm a geek. IMO I would be happy with any one of them but they do have slightly different flavors. The file names below are misleading so read the descriptions associated with the track to see the actual signal chain used for the recording. Here ya go.

Sorry in advance for the tangent, but there was a player asking for some direction about an unwelcome "sound" he got from a Monique whether it was on or off. I can't find the thread now.

It (unlike the Balanced DI Out) is a single ended signal tied to a TRS jack. The TRS jack is a simple convenience for folks who need the 3 wires. It gives none of the CMRR benefits of a truly balanced signal.

I read the manual last night which explains everything very well. My used Monique should be here today! With any luck it'll be sooner than later so I can mess with it a little. It's getting gigged this weekend for sure.

Hi Guys.
I'm considering buying the Monique 700, but there's no way to try before buying in Denmark.
I just sold a fender super bassman (the 300 watt version). I actually really liked the sound of the amp, but it's even heavier than my db750. I own a bergantino nv412 and a cn212. The Aggie sounds very nice with the nv412 but with the cn212 it's a bit to hard sounding in the midrange, and the eq is not super effective. This is why I bought the fender, which performed very well with both cabs. Another amp I like a lot with both cabs is the streamliner 900. I also have a Puma 900 which I'm ok with but I'm missing some of that tube softness with it. Maybe that's my problem with the Aggie too.
How do you think the powered monique would fit in with what I'm describing? I always run my amps pretty clean. I use pedals for dirt if needed.
I also almost always through my pedalboard with a linden eq (from barber) activated and a cali76 comp some of the time, which means that even though I often play passive basses, and I don't boost the signal along the way, they are hardly passive when they hit the amp. So the sensitivity knob of the monique will probably not have effect right?
I hope you have a bit of wisdom for me

This may not help much, but I have a Monique 700, and used to pair it with a Bergantino CN212. The pairing was pretty good, but when I sold the CN212 and got an HD212 instead, it was perfection. I didn't feel like the CN212 was the best match for the Monique 700, although it was good. The HD212, on the other hand, is exactly the pairing I was looking for.
To me, the CN has more clarity than the HD, but doesn't have the heft and weight on the notes like the HD. When I tried the Monique 700 with the HD212, it gave me that tone that sounds so full and warm, like every note had some weight to it. The CN was great with the 700, but the HD is magical with it.
The sensitivity might not interact with a buffered (active) signal the same way it does a passive bass, bit it still affects the sound and feel of the amp, even after pedals.Thanks. Anyone else have some info for me before I use all my money

This is true. I almost always have a buffered signal (between my active bass and my HPF3 before the input)...but there's a LOT of variation in that one knob, even if it wasn't a push-pull.
Just spent the last week catching up on this last thread.
I'm definitely sold on Monique, and luckily there's a Canadian dealer (Clubbass)!
It'll take me a while to save up some gig money, however, our new band's first show is March 14 after a couple of years hiatus with 'singer issues'.
Things are looking up.
One quick question to the dovecage users: does anyone take precautions for securing their instrument cord going to Monique?
I usually like to wrap my cord around the rack or amp head handle to provide a strain buffer so the cord can't get yanked out if someone snags it.
I'd hate to imagine what would happen if the significantly lighter Monique were to be jostled off the top of someone's rig.

Yeah I secure everything. Unfortunately the cabs I use do not have side handles to secure to. So I usually gaff the handles of Monique to my M700 power amp. I loop my instrument cable through the handle of monique and I also gaff the instrument cable to the side of my cabinet. I also spot gaff the instrument cable on the floor by the cabinet. I know its a bit over cautious but my singer is like a bull in a china shop so I'm always worried he is going to knock something over.

I was wondering, I mostly play at home, either in my studio or whenever we throw a little house party. So I don’t need a lot of power, but I realy want my stuff to sound good! How would Monique + M700 sound at lower volumes? Paired let’s say with my small 2x10 cab (SVT210AV) when I practice or with both of my 2x10 together when things get a tad out of hand with my two brothers wailing on their guitars?
Should I try to find a power amp that’s more in the 400-500 range? If so, suggestions?
Would it be completely ******** if I just plugged Monique in the effects return of my current amp, effectively bypassing it’s pre-amp? Until I find something better? I plan on replacing the Cabs sometime this year, not sure with what yet, but fearful is intriguing

I originally ran Monique into the fx return of my PUMA 900 and it sounded great. I also tried it in the fx return of the GK mb800 as well. Did it sound as good as it did running through the minnie or m700? No. But it still sounded a lot better than other setups I had. As long as your current amp can handle a preamp into the fx return, and considering what you will be using it for, it probably would be fine, but it really depends on the amp you are using. What amp are you currently using?
