Jule Amps Monique part 5

If you look really really close, you can see the glow from Monique and Minnie. Crappy picture, but man Monique kills live!

'Tis the season...for decent outdoor gigs! Monique can go from Bike Night to Society parties. This week I've got this:

Invalid Link Removed

We've got one of the satellite like cations near us. I gotta say...I wasn't too impressed with it. Not bad but nothing really worth going back to either.

The Syracuse location was pretty good IIRC.

I do like the BBQ sauce and that's usually what we end up buying when it's around and on sale.

This may be a dumb question (realize there are a lot of variables, power amp, room, etc), but in general how does the Monique sound compared to an Alembic F-2b?
Im not very good like some on here as discribing tone but over the years i have had a few Tube Preamps>Thise being a Aguilar DB 659,Alembic FX-1 and SF-1 and also a Millennia STT-1>As of today I have none of them but I do and still will always have and keep my Monique Dove Cage hope this answers your question !!! I use Monique with my M700, Berg IP 112 and a Puma 900 and it always sounds great with any other amp I have used it with.

Food-wise I can say that it's not what it was, but wasn't even up to it's original standard when it won best BBQ in the US a few years back. Originally when John owned and ran the place and there was only one, it was different. I'd guess that selling ended up with cost cutting in a bunch of small ways that all add up. I'm guessing they run the smokers a bit hotter and smoke a bit less time, some stuff like the fried green tomatoes aren't as good as they once were. They've also dumbed down the menu a bit, which saddens me.

Also, if we want Dino, we do take-out. It's usually a 1.5-2.5 hour wait for a table.

What do I do when I want BBQ as good they made a couple decades ago? I make it myself, including their sauce. : )

Thank you sir. This is just the type of response I am seeking.

I tried every bass pre known to humankind before I knew about Monique. You asked and here is my humble opinion.
The Alembic doesn't have the dynamic range. It sounds like a Bassman while that's good things have evolved. The Kern was the top of the bunch. More of everything combined with excellent engineering. The Monique is a huge room of tone compared to the rest. Each of its controls actually do something. That something is musical.

You may be killing us live with an Alembic so I can't say it's bad. For me the Monique ended my quest. I only need to think about music now.

Questions:

1. Is there any talk about integrating the power section into the dove cage, would seem to be a really nice option.

2. Is a 30/50 or 100 watt tube power section in consideration.

I see he offers these with regard to guitar amps already?

In early March Jule responded to my question similar to your first one. See below:

This "integrated" Dove Cage and 700 watt amp has to happen. The immediate reality is that right now we are about six to eight weeks back logged with orders from a bunch of great people. I am very grateful. I keep expecting things to slow down. Right now everything is about putting in as many hours as can be found to keep good folk from waiting any longer. The "integrated" Dove Cage will happen.

I had an F-1x and Monique at the same time, so I was able to A/B them often, and I can say that they're pretty dern close. I might say that Monique is more "tubey", while the Alembic is more "punchy".

What made the decision for me was the form factor. I use rack-mounted gear, and the Monique rack-mount is 2U; in the same 2U space, I could put the F-1x and the SF-2. It was this combination - which allows far more tonal shaping - that put the Alembic into my rig, instead of the Monique.

That being said, I will be purchasing another Monique - probably the bamboo one... it really is a fantastic pre.

I've never had an F-1x, but reading reviews (and my ears) on them compared to the F-2b that I have , the F-2b is definitely more tubey than it (it does have more tubes). Which brings me to my quandry, whether or not to keep the F-2b that I haven't had very long and not much experience with and need a power amp for, or go for a rack mount Monique all in one. I need to spend more time with the Alembic as I haven't played live with it. I'm not currently in a band, so it may be awhile.

Whichever way you go, you will have great tone! :bassist: You can't lose with either one!

(...where'd my post go?)

I believe that the powered Moniques have a power-amp input. I realize that there might be other considerations, but you could run your Alembic through that if it came to it.

Ah, ok. I didn't realize they had that option. Thanks for the info. I'm currently doing that with the F-2b into the power-amp input of my SVT3 Pro.
