What's the best and worst of a summer vacation? Best is beach time with good friends....worst is knowing that you're brand new Monique 700 Rack is sitting at your local FedEx store in a box! Well, got back yesterday and the amp is part of my bass world now. Like many others have said, with this amp and my Dove Cage, GAS is cured. Thanks Jule!

Yup! Pure tonal bliss!!

Even though I find my Monique 700 Tardis to be very convenient, with everything in one box, I really love the look of the Birdcage sitting on top of the amp. Very cool!
I have been using a Birdcage for over 3 years and a Minnie for almost 2 years. I really love the fact that both are light, small and fit into a small bag. Plus they look damned cool.;)

I had a rack Monique as well and it is still fairly easy to transport and light.

Can't go wrong with any of Jule's products IME.:bassist:

Going into the studio in late September for pre-production and then mid October for album recording @Jule Potter ...I'm excited to head in with Monique, but I have some trepidation that the producer/engineer for the project might not see eye to eye with me on using it vs. his preferred Avalon U5. He's definitely a good guy who's done production on a number of well known modern reggae 'classics' and he's been coming to our shows to get a feel for what we do...but I can't help but think that not using Monique will rob me of some of 'my' sound. ;)

I hear ya! Every live gig I do involves a pre-sound check sales pitch to get the sound man to give Monique's DI a chance. Fortunately after a couple of "thumps", they always give a nod of acceptance.

I've had pretty good luck live. I pitch it as a good way to save effort for the soundman: "Hey, I've got a studio quality tube DI on board, you just need an XLR" ;) The only time I had a real problem was one theater show where they experienced some noise during our set...they switched me out for a 'regular' DI only to come back and say 'our mistake, it wasn't your DI it was a different line' and switch back. I have had a number of good meaning soundmen switch the DI to ground though...

If the guy's made the effort to come to your shows (a good thing) and he digs your sound, I'd bet he'd take the time to listen to you and to give Monique a chance in the studio. Just tell him plainly what you're thinking - that this box is part of your sound, that you're confident that he'll find the D.I. up to snuff for studio use, and that you'd like him to give it a shot. If your bandmates will back you up on this, even better. Ideally, the two of you will listen to both boxes with an open mind and decide on what will work better in this case.

Congrats in advance, and good luck!

That's what I'm hoping. We start with a day or two of pre-production recording, partially to get our people used to the studio and partially so we can get decent rough takes to analyze for the sessions a few weeks later. I think that that will probably be the shakedown for the situation.

Yup, the Birdcage is such a cool implementation. Very unique. I love when function can be so artistically rendered. Functional art is awesome.

OK, got my De-Monique last night that I bought here on TB. All I can say is, Game, Set, Match. This is as close to the voice of God that you can get. Wow.

I do have a couple of dumb questions though. While running one 8 ohm cab won't get much output from the amp, does it matter which output you hook up one cab to? I ran two 8 ohm cabs with it last night. Also, you can run one or two 4 ohm cabs on this amp too, correct? I think Jule told me that the previous power amp was not capable of running at 2 ohms, but the Demeter is. Not that I have any 4 ohm cabs, but if I want to buy some, I'd like to know beforehand.

> No, it does not matter. And I believe you should be getting 500 watts at 8 ohms which is pretty loud. Maybe it's your cab. What are you using?

> You can only use one 4 ohm cab, not two. The Demeter nor the M700 is capable of safely handling a 2ohm load. Perhaps you misunderstood Jule. I actually think I remember Jule stating that the M700 could possibly handle a 2ohm load for a short period of time but he does not advise it, and that it probably is not safe to do, and is NOT recommended. So either use two 8ohm cabs, or one 4ohm cab.

OK, thanks for the reply. That's essentially what he told me, with the exception (I'll have to look back at his email) that he told me that he had switched to the different power section (Hypex?) for that reason, and possibly others, like supply, which has been discussed here.

Oh, and yes, I'm getting plenty of power (500 watts) through my two 8 ohm cabs. I wanted to know exactly what my options are if I want to buy a 4 ohm cab, that's all.

No you misunderstood my post. You will achieve 500 watts through one 8ohm cab.

With the Demeter Minnie you will achieve 800 watts with two 8ohm cabs or one 4ohm cab.

With the M700 Power amp (Hypex) you will receive 700 watts through two 8ohm cabs or one 4ohm cab. Although I will say IMO the M700 sounds bigger and louder than the Demeter Minnie. I believe the Hypex module is actually rated for 1200watts, but Jule designed the amp for 700watts using this module to achieve more headroom.
