Hmm...maybe. Upgrade to the LH system is what like $400 or so? Not sure if I wanna go that route and then still be disappointed. Do you think string-thru-body has anything to do with it?
Thanks! Haven't had a chance to yet. Been learning a TON of new material for another gig I got. Hopefully will have some stuff to post in the next week or two.
On a side note, the pickup cover is the absolute PERFECT thumb anchor for me, and I think looks pretty cool!
No...I don't think it has anything to do with it. Well...if Lance is using a 4-94, with and LH3 and Lakland pickups, then seems like you would be headed in the right direction. $25 on eBay for some Chromes would be worth it to try. Maybe you only need that kind of upgrade. Wasn't HaPpYfAcE looking to swap out his Lakland pickups for Barts?

In my experience, with my 44-02 equipped with the LH-3 system and Lakland pickups, I have to boost the treble quite a bit up front on the bass to open up the top end. My 44-02 is, at least to me, a very dark bass. I adjust the treble, etc. for the room and the band mix on my amp accordingly. My point is that since the Barts are supposedly much darker than the LH-3 system, you might have to pre-emptively brighten the bass with the preamp in order to give your amp something acceptable to tweak within the band concept. I always used to think that treble was the enemy, but it depends on how the bass and amp respond to treble tweaks. Switching to rounds might help as well, but you can get a good, solid top end out of flats on a fretless by massaging the treble and mids. Interestingly enough, my 44-01 and 55-01 basses with the Korean Bartolini MK-1 pickups and pre are very bright and don't need boosting except when the strings get older. My fretless 55-01 is a monster sounding bass. The tone is in there... just keep tweaking.
I was thinking the same thing. I didn't get too much time to fool around with the preamp but my last thought before putting it back in the case was to boost treble.
Sounds like a great idea, but I hate flats (they feel weird) and just took the TI Flats off and put on new DR black beauties (45-105 rounds)

Here is me playing my lovely Darryl Jones Skyline Jazz Bass at a gig a few weeks ago. This was a hilarious gig because just after we did our set, another band rocked up but there was no keyboardist or bassist so half of my band joined their signer and drummer. The conversation went liek this
"You guys know any Funk?"
No
"Jazz?"
No
"Soul?"
"What do you know then?"

We ended up playing shambolic versions of Superstition, Mustang Sally, Gimme Some Lovin, Chameleon and one of my band's originals Moon and Spoon. Good times

GREAT story!!! nice colors on BOTH the DJ and the RIC.....without getting TOOOOOO far off base, what year is the RIC? I had a sweet '89 fireglo, but it did not get much playing time...so I traded it for a 55-94 (and some cash on my part)......(like how I brought it back to Lakies???)

im gonna try hard to come,but my band has 10 hours booked in the studio the day before, and i have tickets for incubus on the the same day so id have to go straight from the gtg to the show

on a semi-HB related note, I really wish Lakland made an acoustic....been thinking about one - you know - campfires, acoustic guitars but I have no bass to play!!!
BTW - my middle daughter just picked up the guitar...seems to be doing really good (she already has a good grasp on music as she plays a mean flute!!!) maybe someday I can talk her into playing bass too!!!
