actually - there are several people who have (or have had) both so you will get some serious answers.. (common Ferg and Happy!)

I like the variability of a 4-94....you can get a 'ray and other sounds.....but a 'ray is nice.....you can get a 4-76 (custom order) which has teh exact pickup placement as a 'ray...

I just put the Black Abalone screwless Pickguard on it which looks pretty cool. I was initially going to put a White or Vintage White Pearl Pickguard on it. What do you guys think? The Skyline DJ4 rocked tonight. The tone was phenomenal. The 4-94 fretless however...not so much. I tried bumping up mids onboard but it was getting buried during the rehearsal mix. I didn't have time to play with it so I put it away and used the DJ4 for the live set. I did set the gain structure properly for both basses during rehearsal on my Eden head, Eden EQ flat, Enhance off, Master set to 11-11:30 or so.

I usually run my Eden rig (WT550 + D210XST 4ohm cab) flat with my Dingwall ABII-5 and other basses I've played in the past. I don't know if it's the Bart pups / preamp or the action that needs tweaking, but it sounds very tame to me...not very present like the DJ4 or my Dingwall. I guess I've gotten used to the Dingwall's 18v Aguilar OBP-1, which I've used exclusively for about 2 years now. This is with brand new DR black beauties on the 4-94. :(

I'll try to tweak some EQ settings on my amp, but so far the 4-94 doesn't do it for me. The DJ however was very sweet. I ran it both pickups full on, tone knob dialed back to like 75-80% (like a 1/4 turn or less back from full on). Loved it!! I'll give the 4-94 another chance tomorrow, otherwise it'll be on the chopping block. I'd rather keep a bass that I can gig with rather than a studio bass...know what I mean?

Any suggestions from you guys would be great. The 4-94 is a looker for sure and the craftsmanship is well....US Lakland quality!

and get the correct control diagram (I forget if it has the LH3 or the Barts) and fool with the mid settings on the pre....maybe you need a more agressive setting....mine cust through just fine....

BTW - rounds will cut through more as well....

only 2-1/2 hours and 70+ post later!!! whew!!! sorry about the ubber wave....

need sleep - getting up early tomorrow for practice...The LOG will have to wait....

Xavier....fool with he dip switches and you will get a sound you will like! My 44-02 fretless was more aggressive than my 55-94 is....but I think a nice set of rounds on a coated neck will fix that!
