I have a CallowHill p-bass on order, but not a fiver yet.

Some news on my basses:
The fretless should be back next week. It's been TOO long! The fretted is one month out. There was another little mixup, but it's all good now. Not a fun experience with my bass being 7 months late, but oh well. Once it gets here, my JO26 is going back to its previous owner and I might put money down on a 5-string or another fretless DJ.

Another little update. I've had a gig everynight since two Wednesdays ago. I only have rehearsal tomorrow, so I'll finally do a lick of the month. We'll start very very simple and go from there. Sorry for dropping the ball on this.

I TOTALLY GET IT! It sounded good solo, but holy cow, in a band setting (three piece rock) it was just RIGHT. Can't wait to hear it through my full rig instead of the practice rig.

Oh yeah, already adjusting to the "lack of a thumbrest". I just have to get used to that sharp corner (the Nordy P/U doesn't have a nice rounded corner like most J pups). Regardless, I'm in love!

The Skyline DJ4 rocked tonight. The tone was phenomenal. The 4-94 fretless however...not so much. I tried bumping up mids onboard but it was getting buried during the rehearsal mix. I didn't have time to play with it so I put it away and used the DJ4 for the live set. I did set the gain structure properly for both basses during rehearsal on my Eden head, Eden EQ flat, Enhance off, Master set to 11-11:30 or so.

I usually run my Eden rig (WT550 + D210XST 4ohm cab) flat with my Dingwall ABII-5 and other basses I've played in the past. I don't know if it's the Bart pups / preamp or the action that needs tweaking, but it sounds very tame to me...not very present like the DJ4 or my Dingwall. I guess I've gotten used to the Dingwall's 18v Aguilar OBP-1, which I've used exclusively for about 2 years now. This is with brand new DR black beauties on the 4-94. :(

I'll try to tweak some EQ settings on my amp, but so far the 4-94 doesn't do it for me. The DJ however was very sweet. I ran it both pickups full on, tone knob dialed back to like 75-80% (like a 1/4 turn or less back from full on). Loved it!! I'll give the 4-94 another chance tomorrow, otherwise it'll be on the chopping block. I'd rather keep a bass that I can gig with rather than a studio bass...know what I mean?

Any suggestions from you guys would be great. The 4-94 is a looker for sure and the craftsmanship is well....US Lakland quality!

I think you should try the Laklands. I was not happy with my Bart/Bart 55-94 (although I'd been fan of my previous Bart/Bart 4-94), and after a pickup swap the sound is as close to what I want as it may go. I kept the Bart pre though.

the MK-1 has that hissing high end that may become uncomfortable. I had a chip upgrade done on my bass (to a Burbrown by Texas Instruments) and that helped, the sound also became "fuller", "richer". There'd been some noise too that eliminated with the chip swap.

no info on that, really. My best guess would be that as the Shoreline is japanese inner market only, so is the Edwards version of the ESP (not shown but it is available at appr. 1/3 of the price of the ESP).
As for the ESP Bardic, it is an japanese artist signature model that I don't think is too popular outside japan to threaten the Lakland brand.
But I agree Dan at the very least has to be informed on that

the only sad thing is those tiniest scratches and finish flaws you get from anchoring. In fact, that was one of the reasons I installed a PG on my black shoreline

Well, it only becomes uncomfortable or excessive if you boost to an extreme degree. We're talking boosts within a quarter of a turn at most. It doesn't take much. The MK-1 setup gets a bad rap but I've heard MUCH worse out there. It's a usable system if you don't go overboard with it.

well there's a pic in full scale or close on the wall of the women's room, and a moveable tin heart put somewhere in the middle of it. The heart is rather worn and the paint is partly off, so it is clear women peep under it from time to time.
And when that happens, a siren and flashing lights go off in the bar, so everyone knows another one did it :)
