STILL ON 22????? oh well!!!

Sorry - nothing new but I needed to get your attention...so:

went to Lakland on Friday to pickup Blondie and my fretless 55-94......

all I can say is WOWSA!!!! the Red Barron (as I decided to name it) really snarls and whines wid da best o dem!!!! those 10 or so coats of acrylic and some nickles really make it sing! as an added "bonus" the neck now shines almost as nice as the bass does.....Carl is sure an artist!!! He also set the neck with the tiniest bow to maximize the growl!

I used it exclusively on Sunday and everyone loved.....yea baby!!!

also - Blondie got a thorough look-see by Carl....needed a set up and the bottom strap button fixed.... that was all (whew!!!!)

Not really too much new to report....left my camera at home (accidentally - duh!!!)....but here are a few things:

1) saw a sweet deluxe blue 55-94 with maple neck.....this was one of the ones that was on the paint rack when I dropped the bsses off.....ubber cool! Carl said that, when Lakland first did that combo, Bass player magazine said it was like a maple diving board over a cool ocean full of waves....they were right!!!

2) saw John McVee's new bass.....a US Dunn with one of the most beautiful (and I mean beautiful) pieces of wood I have ever seen on a Lakie...one piece and nicely grained.....look for it on tour soon....interesting - it had EMG pickups.....

3) Carl "taught" me a new way to "bend" noted on a fretless....he said to NEVER bend the strings (up and down on the fretboard....he says this scrapes the board and kind of muddies the tone...he said, instead, to "roll" your finger along the string....gives a "truer" sound and does not scrape the board.

4) Carl was filling me in on some pickup "ideas" he has - WAY over my head.....looking for a more "even sound" all the way through the notes......will not be anything "visible" but it MAY improve the sound....he has some experimenting to do before anything gets into production.....

5) Leo said more Skyline Blems will be available soon (mostly -02s).

6) an anonymous (well they would not tell me who) was coming into the shop that afternoon to show Carl and Dan a "new innovative" wiring idea for the HB bass......not sure what that MAY turn into but Dan was excited to see what he had to show him.

that is all for now (at least in this post!!!)

i really like the white pearl gaurd on the white/maple DJ, heres a pic of my old one that i never ever should have sold.:bawl:

YES you should have!!!! It gave you $$$$$ for some of the toys you have now.....you CAN get another one someday....

Oh BTW - very nice......sorry - did not mean to be "mean" but it looks sweet!!!!

Hey, just wondering, and this is just out of curiosity without any bad intentions.
Ok, this thread is now into it's 22nd part. Are a lot of these posts just for the sake of it? 'Cause I get that you're a very vocal community, but, 22 000+ posts...

Please don't hate me. :D

we are vocal....so???????:smug: ( a post "just for the sake of it"):)

Fanstastic. B

Skyline DJ5 Black sparkle/RW has been ordered, should be here before the end of the month (I hope Dan doesnt go on holiday before i do;-).

Am i right in thinking its likely to have been plek'd? does anyone find this has been worthwhile? In my experience all the Laklands ive played have been great anyway, cant see how they could improve them ;-)

Glad i kept my LOG number now.

Yes!!! congrats!

it will be PLEK'd....those basses do have a nice feel to them....

I put a J-Retro in my first JO5 with Fralins and it was sweet. You get a little hum when panned, as to be expected. If you wanna pan a bit, roll off the highs just like you would roll down the tone on an active bass.

Otherwise, no extraneous hum if panned center.

Jesse - any new news? I still see a semi-finished bass in your avatar...how is DC?

I've got that one. Technically I have half of his old bass. Poon and I swapped necks so it's now it's Doug's old body, HaPpYfAcE's Chi/Audere upgrade and (I think) Dr. Drunkenstein's old maple neck....:hiding:

Needless to say, it's a keeper.

so....it now has a maple neck.....oh my........................(I think I am going to faint! LOL!)

I am glad it is a keeper.....
