Well like my Nan always says, "if you never ask, you'll never know", but unlike Surprise! Panda, I havn't been pestering you for one, lol

The only person to blame for my GAS pains is that dang Dan Lakin and the rest of his crew, hahahaha I'm kidding, don't tell on me!

The annoying thing (for me) is that I had some $$$ saved up, and then I managed to go and get myself in a car accident where I was technically "at fault" and a whopping insurance excess fee put a stop to my new bass ideas, haha, but live and learn.

At least when I finally get my new 5er, the wait will make it seem even better.
I'm thinking of asking for donations as 18th Birthday/Christmas gifts, to help me out, last year I used that to help me get my Eden stuff...I like to scheme...heh heh. (There should be a shifty eyes emoticon)

It doesn't sound rough at all, I know that one can't always have everything handed to them on a plate, and that's what really annoys me, when I see on forums such as TB, spoilt kids whose parents get them what they want, when they want it.
/Rant.

I feel your pain. I couldn't get a close-to-decent bass until maybe 1993, when I was 16. It was a half-dead FJB 75 and, this being the times of the SOviet Union, this was the very best you could get (although I hated it). The next "real" bass was only 4 years after, and it was a Korean Jackson P/J, which was my only bass for 9 years. Then I had an Ibanez SR905, which made my childish SR dream fade away in less than a year and a half.
So I was about 30 when I got my first Lakie, a japanese Shoreline 4=94 and man, it rocked! Ironically, I paid for it with the money I got from my insurance company when a 19-year-old kid rolled our two cars wheels up! Next year I changed it for a Shoreline 55-94 and last summer, voila! came a USA 55-94.
A year ago I would highly recommend a shoreline - it's close to you and is a killer. I got my 4 for $1000 and my 55 for $1350 used. But the economy kills the deal, now I could hardly get one for under $1800

I am in for a B3 Boomer. I couldn't care less what color it is. 3 toned butterscotch/teal/gold sparkle sunburst is fine with me.

I would vote for a traditional Split P pickup. A P/J would be fine as well, although I imagine that would bump the cost...

Turned an unused bass amp into a nice 55-01.

Shipped to me USPS. I was very concerned with the contents when it showed up.

Exterior box
Looked liked someone beat the snot out of it then taped it up. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Interior Box
Smashed too. Never received a bass shipment from that carrier before. Gotta love the postal service.

Thankfully the 3rd, triangular shaped box was unscathed and inside was a pristine 55-01.

The bass is ~8lbs on the bathroom scale. The lightest I own. Setup is perfect and the pictures don't do justice to the ash or maple grain. I mulled over many basses in this price range and had to go with the Lakland sight-unplayed. I had some concerns with the string spacing at the bridge as its a tad wider then my others. No big deal though. Adapted quickly. I'm still getting used to the thin fret wire. It seems like the stuff on vintage/reissue Fenders. I find I don't feel them as well and can slide right over the intended note. And, you need to fret right up behind the fret or the note is not clean. I play this way anyway but the thinner wire makes it a tad harder for me to feel it.

Other then my opinion on the fret wire, nothing else to complain about. The build quality, finish, setup, etc is as about as good as it gets. I had a custom ordered Zon that didn't come in with this level of fit, finish and setup.

So far, I've only used on it the Church gig. Really looking forward to bang away on this with the big rock band!

You may find that after a while with the thinner fret wire you get used to it. When you go back and play other basses, they may feel like crap in comparison. That's what happened to me anyway...

You know what, if the LOG P5 doesn't appear, I might as well go back to 4s. It's so much more choice with them. Must be the sad extention of the 80/20 rule - the ultimate 20% you need you can only get in a 80% effective package, he he...

I have a sunburst 440-02 and want to get a 02/J style pick guard from Jeannie pickguards in flat black but can't find any picks. Any photo os a sunburst 40-02 with a black guard would be a big help to me.

The one available from Lakland looks to be a Roadrunner. Do the SKBs with the interior formed for a P/J work?

The thin fret wire will soon become your friend. Up until I got an SX Jazz Bass a few weeks ago (just something to tinker around with), I didn't realize how much I had gotten used to the thinner frets till I played that bass. Man, medium-jumbo or jumbo frets feel like roadblocks under the fingers! Once you adjust your touch and get used to them, it's so easy to just glide where you want on a Lakland. Give it time, give it time.

I haven't seen a pic of that type of guard in a while, but have you seen the MM-style guards? Pretty sweet, IMO.

I am back!!! spent 6+ hours each way to work about 2 hours this morning...oh well...the bank (my client) needed me to be there...not really getting "paid" for the travel but, overall, the project fee is OK......

PS - in case you are wondering NO! my "typical" days are not that "easy"...usually it is 9-10 hours per day (when working in the field etc)...
