Although I'm not a LOGger, I reckon the second bass with the Ebony(?) fretboard and Maple(?) inlays was the most nicest.

I have a love/hate relationship with this thread.
I'm GASsing hard for a Lakland 5er, but I am a 17yr old Australian with little money. And for some reason I can't help but torture myself by browsing this thread.

Anyone have a spare 55-02/DJ5/JO5 they want to donate to a worthy cause?

I wait with high hopes. :p

Luke.

Luke:

your wondering and yearning are always welcome.....sorry to make your GAS pains so bad...we all have them....save up and one day you can get a nice Lakie....good things take time (I KNOW I sound like your dad...I have a 20 year old and a 16 year old (and an 8 year old)...so I am a old fart) but I do know it is true.....sounds rough but it is true...

when I was your age, well....see some posts above and you will see what I used to have....did not have anything as nice as a Lakie until I was 42 or 43....

as for the Lakie donation line, get behind Surpise! Panda (who - NO surprises) has been asking for almost 2 years now....:D

I'm right hear.
Don't you have some basses to play?:D
This is one hell of a wave!!!!!
Yeah thats my old JOCS.
Seems to be a bit expensive compared to what I sold it for. I'm just sayin.

yeh yeh yeh...should be playing but had 18+ pages to read!!!

thanks - one of my best (and Markus missed the signage!!! - getting old suck!)

yeh - the price keeps growing and growing.....

Well like my Nan always says, "if you never ask, you'll never know", but unlike Surprise! Panda, I havn't been pestering you for one, lol

The only person to blame for my GAS pains is that dang Dan Lakin and the rest of his crew, hahahaha I'm kidding, don't tell on me!

The annoying thing (for me) is that I had some $$$ saved up, and then I managed to go and get myself in a car accident where I was technically "at fault" and a whopping insurance excess fee put a stop to my new bass ideas, haha, but live and learn.

At least when I finally get my new 5er, the wait will make it seem even better.
I'm thinking of asking for donations as 18th Birthday/Christmas gifts, to help me out, last year I used that to help me get my Eden stuff...I like to scheme...heh heh. (There should be a shifty eyes emoticon)

It doesn't sound rough at all, I know that one can't always have everything handed to them on a plate, and that's what really annoys me, when I see on forums such as TB, spoilt kids whose parents get them what they want, when they want it.
/Rant.

Well, I'm sure I'll be popping up from time to time in here.

Luke.

GREG - why oh why MUST you hurt me so!!!! so close and yet so far!!!! I go after it twice and you get it as an "after thought"...need to play it one of these days....see 'scotch is nice with blocks...REALLY ( I KNOW that is Shoreline gold, but the picture kinda makes it look scotchy!)!
Let's set up the mini-GTG with Jeff and you can get your grubby hands on it!:D

Guys,

I heard from a good friend of mine that when they got their DJ5 there was a few problems. The neck was highly radiused, the neck was thicker than the average jazz bass, and it had a "bland" tone..

All three of those things are bad for me, as I like a thin neck (I play a Geddy, remember!), I like loooow action, and I want something bright and growly. I know a preamp will help that, but I can say that will be an immediate thing as cash will be low.
I know the DJ5 has a different neck profile than the other Lakland 5s...but tonally, bland is not how I'd describe any DJ I've played.

ehhhhhh...guys...help me out here....."IF"....."IF" "IF"

son - in the Land of Lakies, there is NO IF.....always WHEN or NOW...but NEVER IF......

I am a huge RUSH fan BUT the only Geddy I will ever get will be a US Lakland 5 string version.....(Dan thinks it would sell....hmmmmm...the "next" special edition Skyline?)

the Geddy Chi!!!! it would sell!!

i would mos def go with a black pickgaurd though.

and there is your black blocks randy.

My US order is in it's 5th month with another 3 to go. :hmm:
Dan has hopes to get this lead time down to 4 months by the years end.

Well the good news is my DJ5 is in the country, its at the suppliers and should get to the shop before the end of the week.
Im off on holiday for a week from this coming sunday but hopefully ill be able to use it at this sat's gig.

I was going to say i cant wait but ive just read the message about the radius being rounder than most Lakland necks.
While i know it is im now a bit worried it might be too different from the JO5 neck. I know its in between the JO5 and my P5 so im hoping its going to be fine.
Im being silly aren't i?
