look on the circuit board of your preamp, there will be a small white sticker saying either rev.c or rev.d just above the screw to adjust the gain.

rev.c is the older version with less bass.

Also decided to switch the mid setting while I was in there.

There are really only two more Laklands on my wish list to complete my "dream" collection. I would really like to get a hold of a hollowbody bass, and a DJ5 if at all possible. Maybe even one more decade with the LH3 preamp.

I recently got 5502D on a trade. It looks great and I do love the neck but I am not really digging the tone. It has LH3, not Bart electronics (not that I have tried Bart elcetronics). I am looking to trade with Bart electronics and have my ad on classified. My question is then this: Do you guys prefer LH3 over Bart? Why?

I had the same issue when I picked up a newer 55-02D not too long ago. I wasn't much of a fan either, at first. I figured my taste in tone couldn't be so drastically off from most everyone else, since I was only seeing raves about the LH3 stuff around here for the most part, so figured something else must've been up. Maybe I was just too used to the Barts in my other 55's? However, I changed the strings up a couple weeks ago from the Laklands that were on it to some DR's and I'm much happier.

I'd try that route (not necessarily DR's, though I do think they're great and are all I pretty much use these days... YMMV) before you decide to ditch the bass.

Nothin' wrong with the -01 basses. Some of us gig them more regularly than our -02's to be honest.

That's mainly because I only gig the -02 in certain situations... but I still REALLY dig the tone of the MK-1 Bartolinis. Go figure...

Loving mine - would like a 5502 or one of the Jazz Models - I have played Jazz Basses for years. Started playing Spectors last year and now I am loving my Lakland.
