That's way beyond my price range :D I'm going through a chain GAS for the past few weeks but I still couldn't let go of my MM Bongo though. I'm currently GAS-ing for the Japanese made 55-69, the Skyline SK-569.

Any input on how it'd sound like? I like growls..

I've been listening to recent videos of Tetsuya's playing on Youtube. Is it just the recording or does the MM-J pickups have some sort of sub bass harmonics underlying the growl of the bridge pickup?

Heh. Now that is the list price; the actual street price is undoubtedly still high, but probably more in the high $3K/low $4k range. I know two regular visitors to this thread have purchased the Tetsuya, ShowKing and ModuMan (I think I'm spelling their usernames right). Maybe they can chime in on the sound or you can PM them.:)

If you cover that, imma come steal
It.

He he...I agree..I will be your driver!

Thanks to all for the positive replies...she'll stay as she is!!!!

@ Roadkill...thanks for the laugh :-)

Truth is, I had a beautifully figured cherry sunburst w Barts and a BEM fingerboard that was stolen out of my home...

yahoo (first part!)

the second part SUCKS major (no minor chords here!)

bummer that

I expect there's a nice cozy spot in hell, right next to ex-dictators, for people who steal other peoples musical instruments.

yup....bummer......I agree.....ex-dictators? I am sure they are ALL fighting to be the "ultimate" dictator....

Don't forget the daily artichoke and pineapple suppository treatments.

Oh no!!!!

Uuuugh! Man, the thought of someone totally unwelcome pawing through my stuff creeps me the hellz out. I'm sorry to hear that you lost a pretty bass that way.

I agree...CREEPS me out......

Hey peeps.

It's been months, possibly years, nay decades, since I've posted on here...

Just wanted to give you all a heads up: I'm playing at a church worship service out here in scotland which will be availiable online after on Uplift Radio - Positive Thinking Online RadioUplift Radio, so check in on monday.

What's this got to do with you? It's a Lakland Darryl Jones, which hasn't been mentioned in (I think) the last THREE Lakland threads; and I put brand new Rotosound steels on it yesterday.

Also, I run direct into the PA system, no amp of my own, so I guess this'll be the definitve answer to how well it sits in a mix. Can't wait to listen back to it!

:bassist::D

Cheers, SoundSupport

NICE! welcome back!

Thanks for the heads up and welcome back!

What Gordon said!

I can dig it, but a bit too black for my likes.

At least we'll have a definite answer to the "best bass for metal" conundrum! ;)

Yupper....I agree...especially if it had a MM at the bridge...

Nope, for two reasons:

a) I won't ever buy an off-the-shelf model of anything with 'Custom' in the model name. It's marketing BS.

b) Missing a string.

That being said, that is some hottt stealth magic. Especially the ebony board. What will the blocks be made of?

hey now Jes! be nice....it would be "custom" if a limnted supply were made.....I agree on point 2 though....

I think Ebony blocks would be cool....

A bass is something very personal, I guess. But I also think it's too early to call it quits (three days?). You need to dial down the options to something technically feasible on Skylines, and let people get used to the model ideas. I first heard of the 2010 LOG Bass in March 2010, and did not care for it at all. It took 7 months for it to grow on me and I jumped on it. Need to be patient.

Marcel...I really can remember...your "on again...off again" love affair was very public....funny and well done....glad you got one and "made it yours"...

As for black hardware, I don't see that being an issue. With 30 confirmed buyers, I see no reason why Lakland USA could not order the 30+ (including prototypes) sets and ship them to Indo for installation there or wait for them to arrive and either swap them out or maybe have them installed here in USA.

Could possibly have a "2012 LOG Event" where trained LOGers install the hardware in efforts to reduce costs as a project.

There are options. You just need to hang in there. Create an xls spreadsheet with all comments to get an idea of the options the folks would want/support most. Once that's ironed out, deposits could begin. Let's that group make the final build options. Then, step two deposits or finalize payments.

Very cool concept by the way!

Ithink they are north of 60 now for orders....trying to find out the exact number from JP...

Gordon - you sure have an intersting idea with the LOG MOD party....that would be VERY interesting! kinda like building model airplanes in bulk.....chips and beer and soda flying everywhere! ...and then ther are those of us who are (how shall we say)....woodworking and soldering challenged?

All in all though...may make for a fun day! he he!

I have a question: apart from needing a setup, my 55-60 needs an adjustment... It has a way bigger output than my 2 Fender Jazzes (original 1966 and MIM fretless) which sometimes kinda pisses off sound guys. What would be the best way to temper the output a little? Would lowering the pickups help...? 'Cause that alters the playing comfort... :)

ahh.....since when is a LOUD bass a problem (for the bass player)? I would say do what I do....during sound checks, I play all of my basses and make sure they are all about the same volume (with some room to spare).....before the actual playing starts....my acoustic seems to be hotter than my electrics (for reasons unknown) so i adjust....
of a volume pedal (as mentioned below)....might work....

Is there a reason you can't just turn the volumes down a little? Or throw a volume pedal in there somewhere?

there see...Gus agrees with me....if 2 LOGgers agree...it HAS to be right ( :D )

It is indeed a problem when switching. I use those three basses in 1 live setup, so it's a problem for sound guys if all of a sudden my output rises quite a lot... LS-2 might be a good idea but I use only one cable (I just put my amp on standby and change basses). So I'm really looking to change the output of the Lakie.

don't think that is possible with a passive unless you lower the pickups....maybe you just need to sell all but the Lakie and solve your problem.... (JK!)

If you get a Bassbone (I have one and it's very handy, though I got it for free in a drawing:D) and an extra cable or two, the problem's solved.

will have to try that sometime.....never have...

I confess...

I want to love my 55-02 more than my 55-01, but I don't. I just feel like it should be the alpha bass, but other than looks, I like everything better about the 55-01.

The 55-01 has MK5s and LH3 pre - rosewood board. The 55-02 has LH pickups and NTMB pre - maple board. There is a richness and complex nuance to the sound of the 55-01 that's never there with the 55-02.

The 55-02 feels like it weighs 2 pounds more than the 55-01; not good. Somehow, the 55-01 manages to just feel better in my hands...they should feel the same other than weight, right? They don't.

keep and play the bass you like....NOTHING wrong with a 55-01...they do sound VERY different than a 55-02....no issues no guilt......:D:bassist:

...But it's an amazing look, and one I'd considered for a Bob Glaub!

NOYCE! (as doude would say...)

actually - stole that from =Markus....exdcept he "gave it up" and I still use it (hard to get me to change)...O BTW - did I say that bass was NOYCE!!!

Hey umm does the Lakland 55-69 really costs $10,000? D: I was looking it up.

yup.....:D

NOT really! where did you see that?

Pino rocking a Lakland live

I know he used this bass to record a few things but this is the first time I saw him use it live. Sounds damn good.

And Manu Katche' on drums! What a great rhythm section. They did some stuff on the Tears For Fears disc "Sowing The Seeds Of Love". Best stuff Tears For Fears ever did.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I just got my 55-60 yesterday. One rehearsal and I'm in love.

No, I wasn't complaining about the LOG-specific bass, I was harping on the name if the bass it's based on. All the marketing departments in the world are not going to convince me that 'custom' means 'off the shelf.' I don't reward that kind of thing with my money.

In the case of that model, it would have been easy to call it the 'SE' (for 'Special Edition') instead. Or, since the AJ models have opened up a slight variation to the numbering scheme, just call the bass the '44-PJN.'

I'm probably more bothered by stuff like this because I work in words all day...

But yes, ebony blocks would be so hot. The whole proposed design is pretty hot, actually...
