Good to know......if I am ever up there and have spare time (the latter is usually the main issue) I will have to try to get there

What did you fondle this time?

I still don't know models.....so a really pretty tiger striped charcoal grey 5-string, an interesting little translucent red tiger stripe 4-string (Dave said they were the same except 4 vs 5 strings), another metallic teal 4, a silver 4, and one non-Lakland. Pictures are floating around of me with some of them...but they're not on my camera, so I'll have to track them down.

I recently bought my first Lakland. I bought it through the classifieds here, but because I'm from Canada, I had it shipped to a friends place in Tennessee. I had to wait almost a month before I went down to get it :bawl:

I just got back into playing bass last summer, after a long time lay off... you know how life just seems to get in the way. I am (at least for know while both my wife and I work shift work, and with two kids under 8) a bedroom player, and I feel kinda spoiled to have such an awesome bass. I have a G&L 2500 that was my first 5 string, but the neck was kinda fat for me. With the 5502 it feels like I'm playing my 4 string Jazz, but with an extra B string.

Here she is-

I do have one question for the group. The nut seems to have been widened around all the strings- as seen in this pic

Is this normal for these basses?? It doesn't seem to affect the play, and there is no string slippage to speak of. Also the push/pull knob will come off the post if I don't squeeze it, but this too isn't a problem since I generally just leave if active.

Anyways, I'm totally loving this bass, and will probably sell one or two of my other basses. I don't see them getting much use after this...

Glad you like the bass!
Congrats!
Will have to see the nut pic when I am on a real computer as opposed to my phone...maybe the sring slots were oversized accidentally? Maybe the previous owner put wider gauge stings on and widened the slots? Are the strings small gauge?

All things to think about

As for the knob...emil lakland ([email protected]) and explain the issue to him..... and he can get you a replacement knob...easy and cheap fix!

I absolutely love the lakland 5er neck profile! Most comfy of any I have tried ( for my anyways)

Enjoy it!

The Carvins took around 8 weeks. I'm supposed to get the 44-64 within 2 weeks or so from when it was ordered. I could have had one instantly if I liked the Inca Silver one at our local store. It just didn't do it for me. I'm a picky son of a gun! :rollno:

:D

Well...you DID get lucky!

It can take a while depending on where the basses are in the ordering process.....these are already on this side of the ocean and are all ready to go so you decided to buy at a great time!

US Orders are getting MUCH better on timing but can still be 4 months or so...the guys at Lakland are taking measures to lessen that period of time......

He's pretty easy to find on the West side of downtown on The Queensway. Super nice guy - I hung out there Saturday afternoon between load-in and a show and had a great time. I think he had about 30 Laklands on the wall and he apologized for not having a big inventory on hand. Considering the size of his showroom, that was about 65-70% of his display space, so I didn't consider it a small inventory at all.

Wow...quite the number! Nice selection for sure

Tat Tat Tat?

As part of the LOG entrance exam...you were supposed to go to the Lakie web site and memorize all of the models!

The grey and red ones are the new active Skyline AJ (active jazz) basses...the teal and silver ones were from last years LE runs....pictures are a must!

Jedi Bass- Yes. I Work in a small hospital up here in Canada.

My friends place in TN is over by Clarksville. When I go there for my other passion, wild Turkey hunting... I barely had time to sleep, but I'll see what I can do.

I never got into hunting... fishing YES but haven't in a long time.

Yeah, just PM me if you are gonna make it down this way.

Those were a 44-AJ and a 55-AJ. I'm unsold on the colour choices. And on the Skyline versions in general. It's great to see Lakland start offering fancy-topped J basses, though. I have high hopes for what these axes might mean for future Lakland offerings. Like, if a US one in Markus Orange were to hove into view, I'd likely have to sell my sister...

I also loooove flamed maple tops.

Easy to get done with a few thousand dollars!

That was like porn...now I'm trying to figure out if I can justify a business trip to Chicago so I can get a tour. Of course they would have to call the cops to get me out.

he he....that is what happens to most people....the new shop is REALLY cool!

if you do plan on coming up let GregC and I know...we can try to go with you and show you around Chicago a bit...we LOVE meeting fellow Lakaholics
