It's laser etched. This will eventually be on all US basses. Looks like this:

So why did they decide to do that lazer etching. It just seems way to big and unneccesary for the back of a headstock.

I think it's tasteful. It shows extra care and pride in their product

I think it *would* look tasteful if it were smaller.

I kinda dig the laser etching. I could see it helping identify US vs. Skyline basses too, as I've seen some sketchy-looking "USAs" on Ebay and a few shops. The current "made in USA" decal and etched serial numbers are pretty easy to replicate.

Though players would EASILY know the difference between US & Skyline necks, Joe Schmoe at Guitar Center or the local pawn shop??? Nah.

I'm curious about the (potential rebranding???) "Lakland Guitars" as opposed to "Lakland Basses." Maybe its a sign on things to come?

Personally...I love it! This is a high end bass and little touches here and there give it that extra something. If you buy a BMW, you expect some extra unnecessarilies. If you don't want all the extras, buy a Volkswagen.

No...nothing to read into it. Basses are guitars.

I used to really not like shell pink, but it has been kinda growing on me......

And a pic from Lakland after they completed my bass. It's ...pretty much what it looks like in person. Granted, shell pink is a very light sensitive color. But I still maintain that mine is lighter than anticipated.
