Actually when potting pickups you're supposed to use potting soil, it holds moisture better and keeps the windings from drying out.

To properly fillet a bass guitar remove all hardware and strings first.
Remove the neck too because the neck is where you play scales and you don't want anything to do with scales after filleting.

If you are a gigging bassist and want to be appreciated more for your talent then do not stop playing between songs. When a song is finished continue playing.

Best way to get a fully wet blues tone is to use instruments made from sinker logs. Then, by all means, plunge 'em into the ol' muddy, too. That's the ticket - gives 'em even more murky mojo. I fully endorsal the mighty Mississip trip. Remember, if you wanna maintain your all-conquering Mojossippi hipness, simply take a long, hot spa with your instruments every other evening.

In phact you'll be playing so hot you might need a phire extinguisher.
You'll be a phixture at many gigs.
However let's not phixate on phat tone.
You don't want to be a phlibbertigibbet but more of a well rounded player with a phluent understanding of what is needed.
I've always been phond of the deep end myself though and cut out all mids because
I play bass not a mid. There's phar too much treble around in songs now too.
