Live from Daryl's House

I watch a lot of you tube on my wifi blueray when I'm at my family's condo on the beach because we just have basic cable. I've seen a bunch of those clips. They are pretty much all good. Daryl has a really smooth voice. You should hear him sing "Nothing but a Miracle" with Diane Birch. Even though he messes up one of the lyrics, it's like ear candy.

defo my favourite too. There are more likes on this version than on her official video.

"Nothing But A Miracle"- Diane Birch, Daryl Hall - YouTube

Hall and Oates is one of my favourite bands of all time. I have T-Bone Wolk (RIP) to thank for getting me into playing the bass!

Live from Daryl's House is such an amazing show. Not only is it fantastic to hear so many of the older tunes revisited, I've had my eyes opened to some new artists as well. For example, I've watched the Grace Potter episode many times over - she's amazing!

It just blows my mind how well Daryl can sing and rock into his 60s. Just fantastic.

I love this show. Hall & Oates had such a killer band, it was good to see most of them together for the T-Bone Wolk (who played bass with H&O) tribute episode.
There are great performances in just about every show. Some of my favorites: "Green Onions" in the one with Booker T. and Mayer Hawthorne; Guster's "I Can't Go For That", K.T. Tunstall doing "Out of Touch"; T-Bone and Daryl with Nick Lowe doing "Cruel To Be Kind"; FAO's Patrick Stump on drums singing "What a Catch", and most recently "Inside Outside" with Keb' Mo'. Oh, and the food...

my fave is one from Todd Rundgren's house in Hawaii

what a sick house and a sick view to be jamming to

Live at Daryl's is the very best modern music I have found on the Internet. Daryl Hall is a wonderful talent and seems to be a very cool guy. His work here fosters something I think is extremely valuable and rare, the demonstration of talents combined which normal production channels simply cannot support. One of the great traditions of jazz is the real all out jam session. Jams in pop/rock, while not unheard of, simply are not very accessible with a wide variety of artists in play. Daryl makes the task look simple and we all benefit for it.

That said, both shows featuring Todd are simply MEGA! The fact that he and Daryl are both Philly boys from the day certainly adds a great value to the pairing, and their reminiscing is the stuff legends are made of. The playing they do together of each of their songs, and others, is absolutely first rate in every way one could hope for. These two sessions are simply magic.

You can accuse me of being a Todd fan-boi if you want, but I defy anyone to name another artist of the modern rock period who has done so much so well. He has for decades consistently made very serious music history with his varied creative expressions. Be it as an artist recording his own work or a producer bringing the best out from his artists, he has the goods to be seated at any table with any player or producer of any era.

I've been a Hall & Oates fan for a while and had really enjoyed their Live In Concert DVD. The band on Live From Daryl's House is just fantastic. Nothing flashy, just deep-rooted heavy musicianship. That show is a great reminder of how wonderful the live music experience can be.

Back in the '60s the Humes & Berg company, makers of the red and white brass mutes almost any music fan has seen, as well as instrument cases dating back to the '30s, had a bumper sticker that said it all, one which every TB member should have on his/her car today...

"Live Music Is Best"

iJazz - You can't argue with that statement in my book.

Why? Monte Montgomery! Daryl Hall! Sara Smile! Total magic.

IMHO Monte is one of the most deserving individuals to the title of musical artist in the '90s and early 21st century. His music is unique. As a guitarist, songwriter, and singer he's talented in spades, and just a joy to listen to every chance I get. His performance with Daryl is NOT TO BE MISSED.

iJazz - "I can go for that."

I want to thank MakiSupaStar for starting this thread.

I had no idea this webcast existed and because it did I've spent the last 4 hours watching it. I didn't know who Tom Wolk was but after watching the tribute episode I'm amazed at the incredible talent he had and how he seemed like such an remarkable individual that left a lasting impression on all who met him.

Thank you for showing me that there really is some good stuff out there on the internet.

Great show, I really like the idea and the execution is top notch.

Cee-Lo is the real thing, a deserving link in a long line of real soul singers who have their own voice, a real respect for the music that went before, and are proper entertainers. My respect for him went through the roof after seeing the episode.

That Toots one is very cool too- pity the band didn't let go just a little more and really let themselves get lost in the music- Toots was trying to take them somewhere very special and they fell just a bit short- not musically but in terms of letting go and really stepping up emotionally.

Lots of other great clips- all the ones I liked best have been mentioned, and I thank you all for pointing out the others I should check out.

I find the interplay and the concept of musicians from various styles getting together in this way absolutely fascinating, from a musical and personal perspective. This is what more 'reality' TV should be doing!

i highly enjoyed the performance with Company of Thieves doing "Time of the season"

That is one of my favorites along with Piece of my Heart from the same episode.

Many great shows and everyone of them seems to have a tune that just stands out from all the others. Not one bad episode among them.

Klyde Jones playing bass on the last 3 episodes added a whole different feel to the music. I haven't seen or hear anything about whether he is filling in for Zev or replacing him.

I have not caught more than 3 episodes but let me say I am very impressed with the mix/engineering I hear from this 'live' show.
There is not a great deal of physical seperation in that room but the mix is outstanding. Clear, clean and well balanced. Closed my eyes and for the most part hear a 'studio' recording there. Kudos to the sound crew.

Also love the bass sound from Zev Katz. Love that old Fender he's playing too!

I am going to try and catch more episodes.
