What does this mean?
It means that I was typing when I was really tired!
I was trying to say that it would be good to mention to a customer exactly what differences exist between a cabinet's plans and the actual cabinet.

I'm sure he isn't changing the cabinet volume.
So at the risk of being told to wade into the depths of the fEarful thread posts again, without my decoder ring: Can I just ask if it is not true that the 3015lf has a rather broad range of acceptable cab volume 4-5 cubic ft or so?

The change to 3/4" ply wasn't what concerned me.- I was concerned about the reduction of the depth of the cab by one inch front to back, which calculated to an over 7% reduction in interior volume, all things being equal. I spoke with him on the phone today, and he said that that was his standard practice on the fEarful cabs he builds..
Not sure, but it could be this....By using 3/4" material, less internal bracing is needed, therefore increasing the net cab volume by a little. The 1" depth dimension may be to offset this and adjust it back to the fEarful-correct internal volume.I like my cab & I like Don... but if its built wrong I'll be very disappointed.

Just a thought, but that's something you can ask him about.
On the other hand though, now that I think about it. If you take two cabs with identical external dimensions, the one made from 3/4" would have less internal volume, therefore needing to be slightly larger externally to achieve the same volume, so it would seem the bracing would have to be much less to warrant a decrease in depth.
I don't know.....I'd sure ask!
edit: Another thought. It may be an adjustment in order to avoid any legal or ethical issues arising from the direct copy of someone else's design.

There is no legal issue. The plans for these cabs ate in the public domain.
If I owned one, and was curious, I would just ask Don!
Being from Detroit I feel like I should sell my Ampeg cabs and support a local builder!
I cannot read this whole thread but I'd like to know what sort of cab I should consider if I play a combination of indie/punk type stuff. I know, I know...I should try some out and decide for myself..not possible right now with an 11 month old daughter, job, wife, new house, etc.
My head is a Peavey VB-2
The cab is either built to the spec as agreed to by Don & I - both verbally and in writing - just like I paid upfront and in cash for it to be built - or it aint. I find reports that similar cabs are not to built to the agreed specification alarming.
All this self-negotiation, speculative physics, and false claims of having used my cab and liked it, have zero context to the matter as far as I am concerned.
In the case of other owners - its their cab, and their money - so whatever floats their boat is fine by me - I don't reckon my views matter much in the context of what they paid for and what they got.

Before all the fEarfulites panic, it might be wise for CDweller to break in his cab and use it in a proper environment before declaring it defective.
I have to agree, and will test the cab in battle. I also maintain that any differences between the plans specs and the actual cab are best cleared with the purchaser prior to construction.
If you gave don SPECIFIC exterior dimensions and the variance is dramatic, then I can understand if you are disappointed. For a rational person, that disappointment should be somewhat mitigated if the cabinet performs as anticipated.
If you gave don the greenboy " plans" you should keep in mind that they weren't exact and open to a bit of interpretation.
Well... the man measured his cab and sez different
I emailed a set of graphic plans, a cut sheet [in both graphic and spreadsheet format], and a CAD drawing for the cab I wished to order - and provided a written work order detailing these matters. These details were confirmed as agreed both verbally and in written reply. This was matter of some concern to me up front - but I was assured that the specfied dimensions would be accomplished with the sole difference being the use of a differing thickness of plywood would result in 1/4" excess exterior dimension for each side [but little or no weight difference] and that some interior bracing elements might be reduced in scope [though when assembling the cabs drivers and xover and casually inspecting the interior of the cab it looked to me to be faithful in the bracing elements to the design provided].
There was zero room for interpretration or misunderstanding leading to variance from these dimensions.
ZERO.
No... the provided plans, cut sheet and CAD file specifying the build desired were all precise - as was my written work order requesting a quote - as were my verbal inquiries and the replies I received.
Did he measure the actual net internal volume too, taking into account Don's different bracing scheme?![]()
