Markbass F1 Pricing

Thanks agin Ken.
Yes, i had forgotten about the plastic corners. Ill look in to the castors although i dont think i can get them here in the UK so it might not be worth getting them from Epifani. Lots of options though.

I have noticed that even my SA450 stays cool. The longest ive had it on (although i wasnt using it all the time) was 6 hours and i played maybe three of them. totaly cool case after the gig.

Here are the dimensions of the F1:
width: 10.87"
depth: 10.04"
height: 1.73"

The height of the Little Mark II is 2.8"

cheers,
Peter

OK... so basically the same footprint as the LMII, but about 1" shorter on the height. That's really not much smaller than the LMII. It does look a lot smaller though... I guess that very short height kind of 'fools the eye' into making it look a lot smaller.

Edit: For comparison, the EA300 is roughly 2 by 8 by 5... so about 3/5th the size.. and... 3/5th the wattage!

Peter, what's the arrival date of the F1s in the US again? I've read both May and June so far.

I've got a painting that's actually the same size of the F1 that I just slid perfectly into my gigbag's pocket, so I may want to wait for it if it's not a long while.

Good news and bad news. The LMII does not really fit at all in the Slim Bag pocket (I just tried it). However, it looks like the F1 would fit in the notebook sleeve. The LMII would fit if if wasn't as tall... the width and depth dimensions seem to be fine.

So, you are probably good to go on the F1/Slimbag combo!

K

But @ twice the price I don't think I'll go that route. Maybe get the LM2 purse-bag and sling that and the slim bag, or wait and see what else pops up.

I can understand that, and the size and weight of the LMII meets my rather stringent requirements. I have a Mooridian bag on the way, and that will work wonderfully either sitting on top of my larger cabs with wheels for load in/load out, or on top of a smaller cab with a cart or even over my shoulder.

However, that little F1 seems pretty cool, and again, if my comparison with the tone of the similar designed SD800 can be accurately applied to the F1, it is somewhat of a different animal... a slight negative difference to my ear, but I'm sure a positive to others.

Right, which has been the whole point I've tried to make in this thread... those who like a sound more in the EA territory will like the F1 a lot more than the LMII for the same reasons you (and I) might prefer the LM or Thunderfunk.

Hey thanks for checking if the LM2 will fit in the incase!

I stand corrected! I definitely noticed the weight difference, but that thinner F1 really did give the impression of it being even smaller than that.

Those numbers don't lie, though! :)

Isn't it a shame that, rather than embracing Talkbass for what it is, for sharing and discussing news, views and opinions (yes, that's right, opinions), some people take the view that anyone sharing with an opposing view to their own is automatically wrong.

We're in the real world here and opinions will differ. At the end of the day, the consumers will make up their own minds between these amps.

I think that the level of debate in this thread shows that there are people who are put off by the price (yes, before hearing the F1), just as there are people who, if it sounds good, will part with the cash. If this is reflected by buyers when the F1 goes on sale then many WILL be sticking with the LMII or buying it in preference to the F1 if they don't already own one. This includes people who had previously stated an intention to swap their LMII for an F1 before they were aware of the price difference.

Differing opinions are what makes Talkbass so good. It's a shame some people are too full of themselves to realise that and have to ridicule others for disagreeing with them.

Brad has completely missed my point and I suggest he re-reads my posts. I see no value in contributing further to this thread as I don't want to lower myself into an on-line argument. Suffice to say that this thread has generated significant discussion on both sides. There's no right or wrong. Simply, some people will be put off by the price and some people won't.

I will have a chuckle, though, if when the press get their hands on the F1, that they summarise by saying 'great amp, but stick with the LMII unless you really need an amp this small'! We'll see... :D

Since you already assumed that will happened anyway, that would be anticlimatic, no?
:hmm:

Differing opinions are welcome here.

Opinions born of ignorance get their due here at Talkbass. Anyone who admittedly is basing an opinion on intentionally ignoring the knowns of a situation and making assumptions about the unknowns is just plain silly. You don't even see that and that's really what we disagree on.

Quite a bit of the conversation in this thread is incredulity at people like you refusing to think. This isn't a disagreement, you're not even looking at the same situation with open eyes.

I realize that I've only checked out the F1 at NAMM, but as
I recall, the F1 and the LMII sound more alike than not. The
F1 is a bit faster and perhaps slightly tighter on the lows, but
I wouldn't say the F1 and the EA amps are more similar than
the F1 is to the LMKII. They are still very similar.

Has anyone said what the F1 will be priced at when it comes
out?

What I think will be interesting is how any differences might manifest themself on a gig, at volume.

The new MB products, including the F1, have shown up on the MB website since yesterday.
I think I'm gonna get an F1 and a Schroeder 1210. GAS has gotten the better of me, I fear.

Cool! FYI... if you are considering one of the small Schroe's, I would strongly recommend the 1212L... same size as the 1210, the L version is much lighter, and the 1212 has more extension on the low end and more even mids that the very low mid present 1210. I just saw where Jorg is offerening spray on coverings for his cabs... they look wonderful.

Also, from my experience now with a couple of the Markbass heads, and also a number of the Schroeder cabs, my feeling is the LMII/1212L would be a VERY good match... with the LMII's deep low end balancing out the Schroe's mid voicing. And, the 4ohm impedance of the 1212 or 1210 and high efficiency should scream with the 500 LMII watts pumping through it. Cool!

1Plus, I don;t recall where I learned at Berklee, "as a musician"

You have made it, you are cool
You have been to the Berklee School
You give clinics on the side
Music has died and no one cried

Yo cats, Yo yo

Too bad you justified yourself with that school argument. Because you are mostly right. The only mode I see on my amp, oups no modes on my amp.
Anyway I agree : who cares about the type of amplifier, your amp is built with, as long as the resulting sound fits your liking.
Good if you're happy with your ampeg and when a manufacturer comes with a smaller, lighter amp that will sound as good as your SVT-3, you'll probalby switch.

Switch? Probably not.
I got the sound I want out of my gear, and focus more on playing modes and having fun with the thesaurus of scales than I do comparing tones from power switching systems in my amp, but that's me.
Your, ummm, poem- I dunno dude. Keep your day job.
I didn't go to Berklee to be "cool", I went because there were aspects of theory and technique I wanted to learn that hopefully make me a better bassist- That way I can enhance and add to the creative efforts of the artists I feel fortunate to work with.

"Music has died"??? What the HELL are you talking about?

wow.
