Meris Enzo Synth Pedal

I just received mine and i am trying to familiarize myself with its controls. it says there are presets but how do i access those and what are they ? how do i get some moog style synth sounds ?

You need a MIDI I/0 and a midi controller to access presets.

To get a Moog style sound:
Mono mode
alt+ sustain at minimum (ring mod off)
Sustain to noon
alt+ Pitch at minimum (portamento off)
Pitch to taste
alt+ Filter at minimum for Ladder lowpass
Filter at noon to start
alt+ Filter Env to noon or just past
Filter Env to taste, close to noon for short blasts
alt+ Mix to minimum for no delay
Mix to max for synth only
alt+ Modulation sets delay feedback, set to 9 oclcock for noe
Modulation to minimum.

This is a decent starting point for a Moog sound. From here add modulation for a dual voice, adjust the Filter Env for different filter sweeps, and the Filter knob to change the filter frequency. Adjust pitch to octave below if you want really low notes, and sustain to max if you want the note held. Add some delay to thicken things up.

thanks a lot

Just playing it again tonight and it has so many great sounds in it. Easily my fav pitch shifter out there, really deep sounding chorus effects too.

We're trying to have it fit into what we write, and it will, just needs a little more practice. I haven't even cared about hooking up MIDI or an expression pedal yet, but thats coming soon.
May we listen some clips of the pitch shifter?

I'm not doing it yet, but I'm working towards it with an ES-5. Yes, you need something like the Meris MIDI I/O.

Apparently there are 16 presets built into the Enzo. I'm wondering once the Midi I/O box is connected to the ES-8, do I just send a PC message 1-16 to activate that preset? Not sure how to edit and save my own presets onto the ES-8 either. So much to learn!

I know this is 0.00001% of what this pedal can do but how’s the straight pitch shifting of the dry signal?

Are we talking passable - as in no one would notice in a mix or are we talking studio-grade - where it could be my go-to for any digital pitch shifting when recording?

Does it have its own flavour to it like the difference between the Pitchfork, DT Whammy, and the POGs....or does it sound similar to something currently on the market.

It’s safe to assume the tracking is stellar (in order to do half of the things it does), but I’m more concerned about the tone.

Ok, thanks everyone for the suggestions! It is really helpful.

I made this clip which starts with square wave, medium resonance, and fast attack and decay. From there I mess with the knobs as I go (as well as eventually switch to sawtooth wave). And I also added a little bit from the other modes as well (Arp, Poly, Dry) just to give an idea how those react with bass as well.

Also, I bought the Akai Deep Impact when it was first released, and I absolutely love it. The more the merrier!

WOW!!!!! Got any more?

To me, the dry mode is just as important as the synth modes. The pitch tracking has a major difference between most others on the market - the filter can be active as well. Mono tracking is good, poly is not supported in dry mode. The tone is similar to the Whammy but sounds more studio polished I would say, but still can glitch out. Having the filter active certainly helps tame the high end that I dislike in most pitch shifters that make them sound reverb-like with pitch up modes. It also sounds a bit tighter than the others. I'm happy with it given that I was looking for a pitch shifter when it the Enzo came out, which helped justify it - especially with presets.

So I played around with this for a couple of days and I really like the sounds. But it's true, isn't it? There's no way to adjust the output level of the synth except for the Mix control, but that means that you're getting more clean signal the quieter the synth voice gets? No workaround?

There may be a solution in the output modes, like Kill Dry or Split mode.

Well I placed my order last week but doesn't look like I'll actually be getting my hands on it anytime soon while the store waits for their shipment.

Out of curiosity...how are the filters in dry mode? I know there's a few different modes and I'd be looking at using one of the LPFs specifically.

I'm using the Moog MF-101 currently which I wouldn't mind taking off my "gigging" board and just leaving it in the studio for recording. It's so bulky, and even in bypass mode with the included power supply, it's still fairly noisy.

Do you guys think it would be passable in a mix?

As far as tone goes, the filters are pretty darn good, and while its not a direct replacement for the Moog, it does sound good. As for control, the Meris is not as strong in some ways as the Moog which gives you strict control over your envelope following.

I am getting some awesome filter sounds out of the Enzo, but I have not parted with my beloved Moog, and use the two together much of the time. Mind you I'm not playing live, and I'm using the extended abilities of the Moog beyond what the Enzo can do.

That's good to hear! The last time I used a digital envelope filter was on the H9 and it sort of turned me off completely.

I guess I won't really know how close it can get to "my" settings on the MF-101 until the Enzo is in my hands. But I think I like the MF-101 on more the more extreme side which is 2-pole with Fast envelope and with resonance a few hairs before self-oscillation.

I would imagine using the Enzo for it's oscillators and the MF-101 for the filtering would be crazy though!
