Mesa/Boogie Official Club Thread...Part #2

I tore a Mesa Boogie ad featuring Mark King out of a magazine 20-some years ago and hung it on my wall all through college. I don't know what happened to it, but I finally found an image of it.

You wouldn't think that a Bass 400 with non-tweeter loaded cabinets would give him a tone he would want, but the rig looks cool. This was during a period when Level 42 wasn't playing much, so I'm not sure that he ever toured with this rig or one like it.

I tried to copy the rig at one point. I found the 1x15 used at Guitar Resurrection in Austin and bought it. About a year later I found the 2x10 at MusicMakers, and they were going to sell it to me for $200. I was dead broke, so I couldn't pull the trigger. Before I was able to make any further progress, the 1x15 was stolen out of my garage, most likely by a drywall contractor who noticed it and commented on it when he was working on the wall in there.

I've moved on to lighter gear, but this was always a cool looking rig to me.

That old Mark King pic inspired me back in the 90's to build a matching rack to my tolex Boogie cabs, to hold my 400 and D180 heads just like that. I built it for 12 spaces, but after only loading the two heads and trying it at one gig, it was so ungodly heavy and a PITA to move, I pulled the heads back out. :( Looked cool tho. :o

This is how it's connected:

Link Removed

Clean signal into channel 2 of the bass 400, Wah/Fuzz into channel 1 of the Bass 400.
Slave out from the Bass 400 goes through the effectsprocessors to the Strategy 400.

The bass 400 feeds the 1x15 cabs and the Strategy the 2x10 cabs (stereo)

I've played the M6 and now M9 with Berg AE212, 2xAE112, and 2xAE210. Of the three rigs, I like the dual AE210 best. I think the more tight and focused sound of the 210's compliments the big broad sound of the M heads best. Second best is the dual AE112's, and third, the AE212. The AE212 is kind of a big/broad sounding cab on its own, and while I did like the sound, it was maybe a little bit too much of a good thing without a bit of EQ to tighten it up a little. But to keep things in perspective, I think all three rigs would impress most folks. Great match-up IMHO.

I have to agree with Vic as I have tried all of those combos (well almost, AE410 instead of the AE210 stack).
