MLB 2015

Would the Babe use PHD's if they were available in his era? People like Ty Cobb probably would have, but what about the Sultan of Swat?
Good question. I'm no expert on Ruth, but given his lifestyle and approach to the game, I would guess he wouldn't have.

I agree. He did not do much off the field to improve his body, he just loved to play the game. On the other hand, if somebody was better than him because of PEDs, it may have motivated him to do something about it. He did enjoy being the best.

Ty Cobb would do anything to give him an advantage. Can you imagine his temper on roid rage?

Now there's an awful thought. Ty Cobb was the A-Rod of his day. I can't think of a less appealing pair of personalities who ever played baseball. There have been some pretty lousy humans, but between 'em, those two take the honors for being the bottom of the barrel, personality wise.

Please understand...I'm a Braves fan who loves the Pirates.
Earlier today the Pirates' pitcher (young Mr. Cole) hit both Freddie Freeman AND Andrelton Simmons with pitches in the 90s...in the first 4 innings.
No Worries...he has to come to bat, as this is REAL baseball. Our team's pitcher, Alex Wood, faces him...and doesn't even come close to breaking one of his ribs.
I, personally, don't want to be on the same team as Alex Wood.
He got tossed...but for all the wrong reasons. Apparently, he dropped an F-bomb on the Ump...as the Ump followed him off the mound toward the dugout. He was bitching about balls and strikes!
Azzhat Ump...Azzhat pitcher!

With the sound down, I thought Mr. Wood had been tossed because he was jawing with the Pirates' bench...that had every right to call him a PUSSIE for NOT breaking one of their own pitcher's ribs.
I want Alex Wood sent down to Gwinnett to learn how this game is played...

Old school much? Miss Drysdale a bit, huh?

I would have to look at intent. Did those 2 pitches get away from him? Or was it a situation where he was throwing at them? I'm a Brewers fan and we have had 3 head shots, and every one of them was a pitch that got away.

Did Freeman or Simmons do something that prompted the HBP? If not, then there is no reason to retaliate. The starter needs to stay in the game as long as possible. You don't want your bullpen to have to pitch 5+ innings because the starter got ejected. Add to that a possible suspension and now you have to fill a start.

Now, getting ejected for arguing with an ump, that is uncalled for.

GOD KNOWS you don't want the Braves' bullpen to have to go 5 innings! Let's see...they're averaging about 4 runs per 90 seconds spent on the mound.
No...I stand by my original (old school, yes... miss Bob Gibson, yes... :)) theory. If one 'gets away', no big deal. If two get away and hit the two best hitters on my team, there should be retribution. In that case, Alex Wood gets a warning, and the respect of his team mates. Unless Fredi Gonzalez specifically told him NOT to throw inside on Cole, aloud, in front of his mates, he should be wet-towel-snapped half to death and forced to wear fairy wings to batting practice for the next month...in lieu of a two week stint at Triple A.

THIS is what should happen to pitchers who don't protect their own. (OH! I forgot about the Dora / Hello Kitty backpacks!!!)

We have Bumgarner, Hudson, Voglesong. Matt Cain will be returning soon. Don't mess with any of those guys or anyone else on our team. You might just end up with "Rawlings" embossed into your hide. Timmy on the other hand marches to the beat of his own drum.
Someone mentioned Drysdale, yup he was a mean buzzard. But how about Koufax? I don't remember him doing anything except striking out opponents. I haven't heard anyone faulting him for that.

Another day that ends in 'Y'...Another titanic collapse by the Braves' bullpen. In the words of that great baseball philosopher, Joe Jackson "This is something that there really should be something done about"...or something like that. This is gettin' freakin' old.

So here I am, just minding my own business. I notice a tweet that the Brewer game will be on MLB Network. Awesome! They are on the verge of a sweep of the Mets, so I may even see a good game. I turn on MLB Network and they are showing the Cubs Dodgers game. No big deal, the Brewer game should be on the Alternate channel. No, it is blacked out. In Florida. The Milwaukee - New York game is blacked out in Florida. Why? Oh well, I guess I am just going to watch the Cubs Dodgers game.

Took in a wonderful game at Coors Field today. These people sure like wearing their #2 jerseys, don't they? And for good reason! Axfod kept it interesting, right up through the very last pitch! I'm told that happens pretty regularly...

I know they are, but I don't get a chance to watch them very often. When they are on, I like to watch them. I just don't understand why it is blacked out here in Florida.
Funny, we watch them too. And we get them most every evening! But we're quick to turn it off when things go south. And things have gone south quickly in many of the games and stayed there.
