MLB 2022

Man, MLB is passing me off. I used to be able to tap the earphones icon on the app and listen to Red Sox game via WEEI (Boston). Well, no more. There's no headphones icon anymore. Not only that, but when I go to the WEEI website and try to listen live, I get a message saying "If you are hearing this message, you are not elig6tp listen to to MLB blackout restrictions."

What the heck???? So now, if I'm at work, I can't get the games at all because I can't stop what I'm doing to watch. Before I could listen to the games via earbuds.

This is ridiculous. I adore the game of baseball. Bit if I have to watch highlights later in the day rather than get the games live, forget it.

Not sure what your app is doing, but I used that button on mine yesterday. iPhone, listened to Weii

Mine has a headphone icon.

@two fingers ,
Seems odd you would be blacked out for a Red Sox game with you being in NC. Where do websites think you are?

Eastern NC. It has always been the case that I couldn't WATCH any Orioles games. (But I could always listen to them via the WEEI stream either through the MLB app or their own website.)

But the Yankess game did not have the headphones link on MLB the other day. And WEEI website gave me the message I referenced earlier.

It was Kikuchi's first start for the Jays last night. It, uh... could have been worse? Velo looked solid on his fastball but he wasn't locating his pitches very well. Maybe it was just first start jitters? To be fair, the Yankees' lineup is not easy to navigate for a lefty, with RH power bats like Judge, Stanton, Donaldson, etc. Also, the ball seems to fly over the right field fence in Yankee Stadium rather easily. Maybe Kikuchi was trying to be a bit too fine with his pitches, considering all of the pitfalls of pitching there. I'm still hopeful Kikuchi will be a decent end-of-the-rotation guy for the Jays, but... let's try to skip his spot on future trips to New York!

He made no move to get out of the way whatsoever, drops like he was shot with a huge grin on his face, and jumps up laughing 2 seconds later. Yeah, he was totally serious. :rollno:

Are you seriously saying you think he was serious?

We got Ray. You got Kikuchi. Sorry.

It's a new year, but the Mariners are still the Mariners. If they could hit, they would be doing better. Brash had his first MLB start yesterday in Chicago and did well. But gosh, no bats. Surprise. The Mariners started in a promising way, but they sure are reverting now.

Don't remind me! :crying: The Jays also got Gausman though; he should be an impactful addition to the Jays' rotation and help to fill the void left by Ray. Kikuchi is no replacement for Ray, but it's great if he's solid at the end of the rotation. You could do worse than having Ryu and Kikuchi as your 4th and 5th best starters... but things could also go very wrong with both of those guys this summer...

I think Ray is going to be great in Seattle. Acquiring a guy right after a Cy Young win can be risky (eg, Toronto trading for Dickey in 2013--wow was that a major let-down!) but even if Ray doesn't repeat his Cy Young performance, he ought to be really good for Seattle.

The owner of the Reds after fans dared to be mad because the team traded off most of its best players. Wow.

He was being honest. A small market team, or a team not owned by an insanely rich owner who runs it as a vanity project, simply cannot compete on a level playing field. They have to pick and choose to get a "window of opportunity" of a few years to seriously compete.

To the credit of the Reds, they were making moves to improve their team and try to be competitive as recently as the 2018 offseason. IIRC at they time the made deals for Sonny Gray, Yasiel Puig, Alex Wood... maybe one or two more names that I can't recall. According to Cots Contracts, their payroll was right around middle of the league from 2019-2021. This year they're starting to slash it a bit because ultimately the moves they made it recent years didn't work out too well for them (though they did manage one Wild Card play-in game appearance in that weird 2020 season!)

I think they just need to get smarter about how they build the team. Get better analysts, scouts, and player development personnel. Poach people from the Rays if you have to. They've been fielding competitive teams on low budgets for years now. It's a constant churn of players, because once they're nearing free agency the Rays can't seem to afford to keep them, but somehow this system works for them. The Reds could even go the way of the Astros, tanking and re-building through the draft. Signing and developing international players can also work really well if they do it right. When good players become expensive, the Reds might not be able to spend quite as much as the Astros for example have in recent years to keep it all together, but considering their recent payrolls, they can also afford to spend quite a bit more than a team like the Rays. There are ways for Cincinnati to get better without breaking the bank IMHO.

I wish they could have put better teams around Votto during his tenure there. Only a couple postseason appearances for him.

OK, so..... I have a hunch as to what happened the other day when I went to listen to the game the other day.

Yesterday I was able to listen to the audio via a new style of link. Instead of the headphones icon, the word "AUDIO" was displayed under the scorebox. But, up until yesterday, that hadn't been there either.

The other night when I went to listen to the Sox/Yankees game (couldn't sit down and watch much because I had some stuff to do around the house), it was a weird night anyway. I don't know if any of you saw it, but ESPN and ESPN 2 both aired the game. One version was a "traditional" broadcast. The other involved a new form of broadcast where the commentators were sitting on a couch watching the game and also interviewing famous baseball stars. It was super annoying! I'm sure it was geared toward younger viewers.

Anyhooooo..... That was the night I couldn't get the audio of the game from WEEI. I'm guessing (only a hunch) they were trying to funnel viewers/listeners into their little experimental broadcast.

Either way, it seemed to work yesterday. And there's a link to tap to listen to radio where there wasn't one that evening. Hopefully it was an anomaly for that one (weird) night. Coupled with a graphics update on the app and things are becoming clearer.
