MLB 2022

Vegas doesn't have a major league team. Just a fact.

Can you say "Vegas Athletics"? They looked like the script from "Major League" this season - owner absolutely gutted the roster, making sure no one would be interested in coming to games, all the time knowing another city is drooling looking to get them. The owners could not have made the organization look any worse than they did. They even sabotaged the effort for a new stadium near Oakland.

It's not like the As have been in the cellar for a long time. Over .500 in 2021, division winners in 2020, and wildcard in 2019.

Cot's Baseball Contracts is also a super useful and informative site if you really want to go down the rabbit hole of baseball payrolls!

I tend to agree with buldog that baseball needs to do something about spending (or lack thereof for some teams). I don't know if there should be a hard cap, or a soft cap with a different luxury tax system... the addition of a salary floor of some sort seems more pressing to me. Sometimes teams can out-perform expectations while running a bargain basement payroll. The Rays seem to have it almost down to a science, and the Guardians came out of nowhere this year to win the division while spending very little on players. Even the O's almost pulled it off without actually trying to. But the other teams that are spending less on purpose, like the A's, Pirates, D-Backs, Marlins, etc. are truly bad teams. And, more often than not, when teams operate like this, they are going to be bad. I think the Guardians are the exception here.

Congratulations to all the TBer's with teams in the MLB Playoffs. The Red Sox are continuing to do the worst to first to worse cycle. So......., once again, we.......wait.......for........next......year.

I'll root for teams with strong Red Sox connections (Francona and the Guardians) and (Betts and the Dodgers). I have friends in NY who are diehards for the Yanks or the Mets; I can't root for either team, but would be happy for my friends if either team won.

^^ yes, i believe i noticed that the mariners have the second lowest overall payroll of any playoff team this season. as bulldog noted, the dodgers, yankees, and mets are runaway big spenders.

ya think toro hernandez wil be on the playoff roster? looks like he had a rough season.

Scherzer, deGrom, and Bassett all got tagged hard in their last starts, and Soto CRUSHES at Cityfield. The Mets better find somebody other than McNeil and Escobar to do something other than hit into double plays. I understand the move to bring up Alvarez, but throwing him to the lions in Atlanta was ridiculous. Totally over-matched with 0-fers and two spectacular bat chucking strike outs. He looked like a little leaguer out there. In a rare misstep, I think Buck rattled the kid in a bad way putting him in such high pressure spots.

I have no idea which of the yapping melons it was, but he talked straight through the first knock of the game. A line drive homer for the first run of the playoffs, and he yapped straight through it, like your annoying bro in law during the superbowl. ESPN used to be the standard, now they are a complete clown show of putzes who can't stand to stop talking about anything but what is happening between the lines in front of their faces. I so wish there was a way to synch a radio feed to the tv broadcast feed.

As I was watching a little of the NFL game night, I was reminded of my favorite sports thought - there is baseball, and there are the sports you watch when there is no baseball on.
Also known as filler.

The Mariners are supposedly built to win short series playoff rounds. They have power pitching, a power bullpen, and power in the bats. What they don't do is hit for average. I'm not sure what makes a playoff short series any different from any other series in the season, since a cold streak can kill you either time. But there you have it. That's what some expert or another was saying about the team this year.

It will be over before I leave work, but I have the ESPN Gamecast on the computer.
