thank you! the Q6 has changed my playing in ways i never expected. i just got the fretless a few months back - never been a fretless player - i've been real pleased with the Q5, but wanted to try a fretless for more melodic ideas, which meant the high C would be nice for added range... but of course i don't want to give up the low B, soooo that meant i was looking for a 6, which just seemed so ~excessive~ given my moderate abilities. of course i had to have lines, because i'm nowhere near good enough to survive without them.

so as we've been writing material for the new CD, i've had to decide which bass to write the part for - fretted or fretless. and i keep reaching for the fretless time and time again. the bass just ~sings~ in a way that i've never quite run into on any other bass. and the switches mean that i've got so many tonal possibilites that i still find new stuff every time i play.

so what was going to be a bass for occasional parts here and there is fast on the way to becoming my main bass!

... and i can ~almost~ keep my intonation straight. ;)

nice fretless Q6 ! i like very much:bassist::bassist:

If you ever decide to get rid of that semi-hollow....sleepy_monkey is your man. Beautiful!

Crappy pics, but hey, it's what I have for now...

"Ralph", my Modulus Quantum 6

In my collection of basses, Ralph is first among equals; my main player, my leader of the pack, my go-to-guy, etc.

Recently I put a John East U-Retro preamp in Ralph, and the improvement in sound over the stock EMG preamp was very noticeable. The last pic shows Ralph watching one of his buddies getting a U-Retro installed also (that's "Blue Boy", my Guild Pilot 5 fretless).

Glad to be part of this "mob" :bassist:

I don't know if I've EVER seen a quantum with the specs of that Q5: spruce top, semi hollow, chechen FB with dots, mahogany back...is it a custom? Very unique. I'll bet it sounds different from the phenolic/alder/maple top Q5, too.

i bought it from stretchcat here on TB (and i don't think he was the original owner either), so i can't say for sure, but i would think it was probably a custom order. my understanding is that it originally had the Aggie OBP-1 in it, and was swapped out for the Bart Pre. i say this because i got the Aggie Pre along with the bass, and was told this by stretchcat.

as for the tone, it's definitely a bit "woodier" than your average modulus, which i like. the extreme low end resonance is really great - from about low G down to B - and really comes through in the studio. it lets me get just a hint of the vintage motown-ish vibe, while maintaining the clean, modern sound that's my main tone.

but the best thing about this bass is the weight! with the spruce and mahogany, and the chambers cut out, it's super light. i don't have a scale at the house, but it's the lightest 5 string i've ever played, and lighter than many 4s. my back will occasionally give me trouble on a long gig now, but when i used to play a Stingray 5 it would bother me every single gig by the 4th song.

Hey, I just picked up a VJ (my second one- sold the first a while back).

Nordy NJ4s, BadAss II, Hipshot D-Tuner, J-Retro, black with a tort pick-guard, chrome hardware.
A total hotrod.

Can I join the Mob???!?!?

Woah.....been a long time since I posted in this thread. I'm thinking of buying the Q4 CTandBirdsong has for sale in the classifieds. What do you think guys?

Seems like his site is down right now, but just go check out his thread in the classifieds.

I've seen it (at least the pic).

Grab it, I can wholeheartedly say! :)
